{weekend notes}

Weekend notes a day late.  Only for my Mama!  Hope you all had a good one.  Between Napa + volunteering + cooking + wine-ing…it was a nice weekend!  I woke up Monday morning ready to conquer the week.  Don’t you love it when that happens?

 

Intentions for the week:

  • Stay sugar-free (ish)killed it during the week/failed on the weekend
  • Drink 75 oz. of water a day aka 3 Yeti cups + a little more
  • Organize my closet (it’s on here AGAIN, I know)
  • Work out 5-days this weekAnd I actually enjoyed it!!!
  • Send back returns
  • Hang shit on the walls (not shit, but art/decor) Almost done!
  • Challenge myself to not place ANY on-line orders (last week was redic) – FAILED miserably.  In my defense, J.Crew was having a good sale and I had Nordstom bucks burning a hole in my pocket. 
  • Change passwords/update names for wifi + make a cute sign
  • Make smoked paprika roasted chickpeasmade another batch for this week…so good!
  • Get blonde again
  • Chill out on the BRAVO channel – Can’t stop, won’t stop

Martini night kicked my ass Saturday.  But, I’ll do it all over again when Alex calls and invites me over for ”A” drink next time.

Especially when you’re 6:30 am alarm goes off to do a Kaia workout with Melika.  I didn’t die.  Almost though.

I did wipe out the whole hour of exercising afterwards.  Believe it or not, I was an El Patio breakfast burrito virgin.  Until now!  I’ve been missing out…BIG time.

I also drank a soda the size of my face.  Probably haven’t had a soda since 2006.

A quick trip to Napa!

Dinner at Boon Fly Cafe made my dreams of staying at the Carneros Resort even bigger.  The grounds are to die for.  The price tag….Not so much.

Pioneer Women Restaurant Salsa.  I always have a mason jar full of this in my fridge.  It’s my favorite, easiest, homemade salsa.  It goes on eggs + salads + chicken, you name it.

Omega Nu sisters volunteer for the CASA event!

After our Friday night meeting, I was so inspired by the CASA organization.  I thought I knew what they were all about.  I had no idea what an impact they really make on kids in our community.  And now I understand why guests at the event are also so supportive of the CASA organization.  The speeches.  Watching the paddles fly up in the air.  We lost count at $150,000 during the live auction.  Speechless!

Oh and Park Winters isn’t too shabby either…….

That pool though.  I’m thinking we need a pool day soon!

{august}

August 1st!!

The last month of summer.

Can you believe it?  I think I say that every month…Ha.

Except this month is a little more special.

You see, she’s counting down the days until her 11th birthday.  I’m now using this month as leverage for good behavior.  Constant bribes for everything.  Kinda like Christmas.  You know exactly what I’m talking about mamas.

“Remember Santa is watching.”  Too bad there isn’t a birthday fairy or something watching.

Anyway, I’m feeling all sappy.  ELEVEN YEARS OLD!  This month!  22 more days!

She once again reminded me….7 years till she moves out.  FML!

New month.  New mindset.  New start!

Scared.  Excited!  After over a month break, I’m ready!  With BRIK around the corner (August 28th), I’ve got my work cutout for me.

{kaia brik measurements}

Kaia Fit Woodland Kondition Kamp BRIK came to and end.  About 3 weeks ago.  I’m fashionably late, as always.  It wouldn’t feel like BRIK if I didn’t share my results.

In the last month or so, I’ve collected some new followers, so I thought I’d share a more details about how and when I got started with Kaia.

{weekend notes}

Hey hey hey!  Happy Monday!  I feel like I haven’t written, I mean typed, those words in sooo long.  Tell me, how the heck are you guys doing?  How was your weekend?  Lots of exclamation points, I hope! 🙂

 

Here’s some of my highlights…..

 

Last day of school //

Friday was the last day of school/last day of the 5th grade.  Just like that, in the blink of an eye, I have a 6th grader.  OMG!  How in the world did that happen?  Followed by a perfect report card, one again.  She grew (literally) so much over her 5th grade year, its unreal.  Bay spent the day swimming at the Nelson pool with her favorite homies.  Thanks for the fun afternoon Tom + Robin!!!

Pizza + Wine at the Truitt’s //

We watched Charley take off on his bike minus training wheels.  So cute.  Seems like years ago Bailey learned to ride a bike.  It brought back memories.

Pizza, my personal Friday night jam.  And chard.  And Yahtzee!   It was good!

Measurements //

Post BRIK weight/measurements happened Saturday morning.  I’ll be sharing more this week.  Thank you Coach Kori + Coach Kaitlyn for waiting for my late (as always) ass!  The new CORE sessions began today!!   I chose to sleep in though.  FML!  See you Wednesday.

Swim meet //

Bay’s first swim meet of the year.  I watched my girl come in first (for her heat) for the backstroke.  So proud of her.

 

Lunch with Mom //

We tried out the new Midtown Cantina Alley.  I’ve had this spot on my list of places to try since they opened in April.  This little gem is located in the center of Jazz Alley!  They killed it with the atmosphere, decor and ambiance.  You feel like you’re in Mexico!  It’s authentic AF.

Obvi we started with the margarita la sandia.  They claim it’s for 2 peeps, but I can’t lie, I could have polished it off all on my own 🙂

We shared the flautas + fish tacos.  If you make a trip to this place, you MUST order the fish tacos.  It was a fried (which I’m not always a fan of) red snapper that was to die for.

Martini Mama Liz //

When Jerry + Liz invite you over for dinner.  You say “absolutely!”  Because….

  1. Jerry one helluva chef.  Just take a look at that risotto.
  2. Liz makes the VERY BEST martini’s ever!  Hence her nickname, Martini Mama Liz!
  3. It’s always a good time.
  4. The conversations are always something we talk about for weeks…lol.
  5. It comes with an Uber 🙂  #jerry

Blue Ridge Hike //

We woke up early AF and headed to Berryessa to hit the Blue Ridge Trail before every other mother in the world made it there!  I haven’t hiked this trail since, I believe 2014?  It’s crazy how much different spots on the trail looked since the fire.  This 4.75 mile loops is killer.  Not only on your legs + ass, but the views are just as killer.

This is the ONLY way from the parking lot to the trail.

{friday 5}

Man oh man, this week felt like it would NEVER end.  TGIF!!  What’s on the weekend agenda?  I made shit happen this week…clean car, full tank of gas, groceries purchased, yard work done, meals planned…which means only one thing.  I get to #chardsohard and lay out in the sun with every spare minute this weekend!  Whoop Whoop!

I’ve got 5 things on my mind…..

 

 

ONE – Cold shoulder for girls // I have to admit, I wasn’t sure I was down with this trend on my daughter.  Anyone other mamas feeling the same?  Don’t get my wrong….I’m all about the cold shoulder for me.  But, my 10-year-old?  I had to remember how obsessed I get with new fashion trends.  She’s my daughter…it’s in her DNA to love the same things I do.  So, I caved and bought her one.  No wonder Bay fell in love with this adorable cold shoulder flutter sleeve top.  Cute, Stylish + Trendy!

And those blue eyes….I die ♥

TWO – Grilled Mango Salad // Not really sure why I call this a salad?  Salads don’t have to contain leafy greens, right?  Think potato salad.  Or pasta salad?  Fruit salad.  So guess what I did?  Googled that shit…..

Salad

a cold dish of various mixtures of raw or cooked vegetables, usually seasoned with oil, vinegar, or other dressing and sometimes accompanied by meat, fish, or other ingredients.

Grilled Mango SALAD it is!

It’s the perfect combo of sweet, spicy, sour and salty flavors.  If you like a good kick, this is your salad!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice, divided
  • 1 jalapeno, thinly sliced
  • 1 red jalapeno, thinly sliced
  • 2 mangoes, cut into slices
  • Cooking spray
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped (I forgot this ingredient and knew something was missing)

 

Here’s what you’ll do:

Combine 2 tablespoons lime juice and jalapenos in a small bowl.  Set aside.

Coat mango slices with cooking spray, sprinkle with salt + pepper.  Heat grill pan over high heat until smoking hot (literally).  Coat pan with cooking spray.  Add mango slices and cook without touching for 4 minutes.  You want nice grill marks.  Flip and cook 2 additional minutes.  Then place on platter.

Combine renaming 1 tablespoon lime juice with sour cream stirring till thinned out and smooth.

Spoon jalapenos over grill mangoes.  Drizzle with sour cream mixture.  Sprinkle with cilantro.   Serve with lime slices.

I served this “salad” alongside grilled pork tenderloin.  But, this would be a great taco Tuesday side, don’t you think?

 

 

THREE – Kaia Challenge //  Week #1, I believe day #1? (correct me if I’m wrong) We were introduced to the BRIK Kondition Kamp Challenge.  Holy shit!  It’s a tough one.  For me, personally, the toughest yet.   Jump roping + running are the devil.  Long story short, I’ve got maj bladder issues.  Like so maj that I’ve jumped though hoops the last year to correct and still no results.  Specialist + bladder therapy (I fucking swear it’s really a thing) + gadgets galore (TMI).   Debated for months about writing more about this topic…maybe when I finally find a cure I’ll be more inclined to share?  That means, probably never…ha!

Anyway, back to the challenge…..

Some days I feel like forest fucking gump and the next like a turtle that gasping for air.  There is no rhyme or reason to it…I just never know what’s going to happen when I hit the pavement.  From week #1 to week #3 I was able to shave 2:17 minutes off my week #1 challenge time.  I gave myself a damn high-five for that.  Ha.  Week #3 I must have had a forest day.  I was runnin!

{pre brik measurements}

It’s that time again folks!  Kaia Fit Woodland BRIK round #2 for 2017 has arrived.  Actually, it arrived 2 weeks ago.  This post is a little late.  The last two weeks (and more)….let’s just say, I’ve been a really shitty Kaia girl.  Attendance wise.  But, I think….I got my mojo back. Fingers crossed!  

Kaia Kondition Kamp BRIK (May 1st – June 10th)

Welcome to Spring training Kondition Kamp.  This isn’t your typical kiddie camp: We’re training your mind & body to be disciplined!  We will lead you to get comfortable with the uncomfortable.  This is the session to embrace challenges, find your strong and have a BLAST with your fellow Kampers!

Sounds like a massive ass kicking session to me!  Just what I need!  Just when I need it!

It’s never too late to get your shit together!!!  My current motto!

Which is why I’m ready to finally share my pre BRIK measurements.

{friday 5}

Needless to say, I’m pretty happy Friday is finally here!  Who’s with me?  After this weekend, I’m a free women.  I mean, not really.  But, I will feel like a free women…for a minute or so.  Lucky In Kentucky is Saturday and we are gearing up for the Omega Nu event of the year.  BIG thank you to everyone that bought tickets and is coming to support our organization.  Big hats + mint juleps + skeet shooting and all things Kentucky…can’t wait!!

Now lets chat about 5 things on my mind…..

 

 

ONE – Bitch Straw // Remember I posted Bailey’s Krazy Straw here on {friday 5}?  I mentioned that I kinda wanted to order myself one that said “bitch”  And guess what?  I went to Kaia for the first time innnnn….I’m too embarrassed to admit it here.  Anyway, Mallory, my Kaia coach handed me the bitch straw she had ordered for me!  I mean, how f’n sweet is that?  Pretty sure she intended for this straw to be used for a healthy Kaia smoothy….but, she knows me better than that.  It’s FRIDAY and this just seemed a little more up my ally!  Bogle + Bitch Starw + Friday go hand-in-hand!

Thank you Mallory, you made my week!

Love her!  Almost as much as I love to #chardsohard ♥

TWO – My Parental’s Anniversary // Whenever it’s someone’s anniversary the first thing that comes to my mind is Tony Toni Tone – Anniversary song…lol!  It starts playing in my head and pretty much kicks it there all day on repeat.  Ha!  Anyway…today is my creators 38th wedding anniversary.  Thirty Eight frickin years.  FOR-EV-ER!  Just wanted to wish them a happy day and many more to come!  Cheers to 38 years!!  Love you guys like a fat kid loves cake ♥

THREE – Peanut Butter Apple Slices // Not trying to pretend like I’ve been all healthy and shit this week.  If you follow me on snap chat, then you saw detox lunch yesterday.  It was the lunch of champions!  But, this is mine + Bay’s new jam.  Apple slices smothered with Laura Scudder’s peanut butter, then sprinkled with toppings.  You must try this.  I lost my beloved apple corer…sad day at our house.  Luckily Amazon has got my back.   Core apple.  Slice into thin rings.  Blot with a paper towel to remove moisture.  Spread peanut butter goodness over the apple slices.  Raid your pantry for toppings.  And you’ve got one helluva snack.

Granola

Sprinkles

Chopped walnuts

Mini chocolate chips

Honey (Seka Hills, obvi) – this one was the BEST!!
