I shaved my face last night.  But, I’ve decided I’m going to say I tried dermaplaning instead.  As soon as the words “shaved” and “my face” are said, peeps instantly freak the fuck out.  Ha!  It’s okay, I kinda thought the same thing too.  Then I did some research.  I’m not going to grow a beard!

I really, really wanted to try and video a portion of it.  But, once I had the razor in my hand, decided safety first and put the phone down. lol!

Just like all the fads that come out.  Charcoal teeth whitening.  Jade rolling.  Rosewater spray.  Cory always says, “do you have to try everything?”

Yes, of course I do!  #YOLO

I’m what they call a sucker.  You tell this $10 conatiner of shit is gonna make me skinny or pretty…SOLD!

I’m also too cheap to pay for Amazon Prime, so I have to ask Cory to purchase all my random shit for me.  Ha!  Hence, why he’s concerned that I’m a sucker for trends.

Let’s chat about the fads that I’ve tried…..

 

Facial Razor // We have to start with this one.  I dermaplaned my face last night.  I read so many reviews.  Amazon alone has over 1,800.  You guys would straight up DIE if you saw all the peach fuzz and dead skin that came off that tiny little razor.  So disgusting.  I didn’t realize what a hairy bitch I was.  But, the results – I’m a believer.  My face is so, so smooth.  My makeup went on so incredibly smooth this morning.  Even a little glow!  It’s like an exfoliation at a deeper level.  All in the comfort of your very own bathroom.  And it only costs $5.  I will continue doing this procedure.  Maybe weekly?

Just trust me on this one, k?

Another day, another Old Navy sweater!  Old Navy is HOT right now.  Words I don’t think have ever left my mouth…HA!  But, for reals – you cannot beat those price tags + promo codes.  They have relevant styles and way better quality than I remember from the good ol days.

Before we get to that, I’m going to chat about my sugar cleanse for a minute.  If you DGAF….keep scrolling.  All my outfit details + top Old Navy picks are below.  I’ve been getting lots of questions, so let’s break it down real quick……

WHY

I’ve chatted before about why I cut sugar from my diet.  You can read about it here: {no sugar, no problem…sike} Basically, these jeans I’m wearing right here.  They are getting tight.  And I really like them, so I better get my shit together.  You know what I mean?  But, there are about 7 other reasons too.

HOW

I start each cleanse with a 2-day meal plan (below).  And the 3-day renew life cleanse.  Just trust me.  The combo does wonders and I feel so good within those first few days.  The 3-day cleanse you can find at Target and Nugget for $7.  I wrote about it more here: {friday 5}

I legit yanked this out of a Women’s Health magazine at Oasis about 5 years ago.  Sorry Melika.  I keep it on the side of my fridge.

Breakfast – smoothie (I follow the recipe above) in my opinion, it’s the worst part of the 2-days

Snack #1 – cucumbers + vinegar + dill with a cup of green tea

Lunch – ground turkey + spinach + cilantro + green onions.  I top it with a shit-ton of hot sauce.

Snack #2 – should be asparagus.  I opted for carrots since the asparagus at the grocery store looked nasty.  With another mug of hot green tea.

Dinner – roast salmon + spinach + red onion + little olive oil + LOTS of lemon

In the evenings – you know, wine time + chill time?  I immediately brush my teeth.  Meaning kitchen is closed…NO MORE FOOD.  Ha!  Then follow-up with lot’s of green tea.  Especially the night your kid decided to try out a new chocolate chip cookie recipe.  Not gonna lie, I 100% snuck a bite of the dough.  #qualitycontrol

After the 2-day thing is over.  I stick to a strict no added sugar diet.  I don’t do fruit, because I don’t care for it.  I will use some brown rice here and there.  Sweet potatoes.  Homemade nut butters.  NO wine.  No beer.  No TJ’s dark chocolate covered almonds.  The struggle is real.  A clean diet.  Lots of protein + veggies.  With a few Skinny, Skinny Margs on the weekends.

HOW LONG

I was originally thinking till the end of the week.  But, who knows.  Maybe till Thanksgiving?

Life is busy and there are never enough hours in the day.  Girl, I get it.  We’re all busy AF!  Trying to keep up with kids, family, friends, work fitness…the struggle is real.  But, you just gotta schedule a little time for yourself.  No matter what it is.  Do something that makes you feel good.  Relax.  Rejuvenated.

Self care looks different for everyone.  Some think fancy spa days.  For others it can be cozying up with a good book.  Whatever it means to you, just do it.  Treat yo self!

{meal prep tips + greek salad}

Greek salad meal prep for a week!  4 days to be exact.  Because, even I, a creature of habit.  One that can eat the same thing over and over.  Can only do 4 solid days before I need something new up in the mix.  Ha!

Before we get to the recipe, I’m going to answer a question I get ALL THE TIME.  Meal prep.  Who?  What?  How?

I know so many people who stop by the grocery store on their way home from work to grab that evenings dinner.  Personally that gives me the chills.  I despise going to the grocery store.  Well, other than Trader Joe’s.  So, I make it a once a week thing.  Which could give you the chills…lol.  With a little practice and some strategy, I promise you can do this too.  It’s such a life/time saver!

Tips for easy meal-prep

1 – Pull out your calendar.  Take a peek at the week ahead.  Realistically, how many days will you be home for dinner.  Meetings, sports, kids activities, happy hours all play into this.  My goal is to cook at least 3 of the weeknights.  And plan for leftovers the nights I wont have time.  Picking recipes that can double duty.  Like, cook extra chicken one night for dinner.  Make soup or chop up extra chicken for salads the next night.  I know that if I have a meeting on a Tuesday night, I need to:

A.) prep or cook the night before.

B.) plan something super simple.

C.) pick up dinner somewhere.

 

2 – Pick one day a week to decide on actual meals.  Every Wednesday I do my meal plan for the following week.  Now that you’ve figured out how many meals you need to plan for the upcoming week.  Flip thought magazines.  Scroll through pinterest.  Pull out all your fave cookbooks.  Just pick a day and make it happen.  I actually enjoy this part!  Then write it out in the notes on your phone.

Monday – chicken + rice + veggies

Tuesday – chicken tacos + green salad

Happy Friday!  We did it!  We made it through another week!  Summer is hard guys.  Kids get bored.  I don’t really feel like entertaining.  And to top it off, its hot as balls and I don’t see an end in sight.  Speaking of balls…..

ONE – In My Feelings Challenge //

It’s the Drake – In My Feelings dance that has basically gone viral.  Go to Instagram and type in #inmyfeelingschallenge  there are over 315K videos of peeps doing the famous moving car dance.  Bay + I watched them the other night crying we were laughing so hard.  Then she convinced me to let her do it.   Of course I said yes!  Then we proceeded to drive up and down our street dying laughing even more.  God, I love her!  ♥

You’re gonna have that song stuck in your head all day too.  You’re welcome 🙂  Hope you all had a groovy week!  This week I hosted a rosé tasting + OC Housewives premier night.  Can’t wait to share all the deets!  Bay completed Algebra Academy today.  We planned out the upcoming Omega Nu calendar.  Website hopefully coming soon!  I started BBG and frickin love it.  Watched Mama Mia with my favorite ladies.  It was a very productive week, I might add!

And today we’re off to Ukiah today for another fun weekend.

 

Let’s chat about 5 things on my mind…….

 

ONE – Mama Mia // Here we go again!  My DM’s blew up asking how the movie was last night.  So, So good!  So good, that Bay couldn’t sit in her seat.  She’s very into musicals at the moment!  But, this one especially.  Bay + my Mom have been watching the first Mama Mia on repeat and pretty much know every.single.song.  My Mom was a little disappointing that Meryl Streep wasn’t a main character.  Not to spoil it, but she was literally in the last 5 minutes of the movie and that’s it.  Other than that, no complaints!  And the big screen at the State Theater is wow!  It was my first time watching a movie on the big screen.  It was so comfy I was worried I’d fall asleep…HA!  It has happened before!

TWO – Anniversary Sale // Anyone else beyond sick of hearing about the #nsale?  This is normally right up my alley, but I’m legit so over hearing about it.  Today it opens to the public so be prepared for Nordstrom overload.  Not to mention, I’ve been waiting very patiently for my #nsale items to arrive.  Still NOTHING!  I placed my order Thursday, July 12th…the day the pre-sale stared.  As of today, my items show they will arrive by July 24th!  Ridiculous.  I read that since the PRIME sale + Nordy’s both took place at the same time, UPS is on major overload.  Like Christmas in July status.  So, if you too haven’t received your order yet, I’m right there with ya!

{floral + herb smudge stick diy}

You know about the smudge sticks, yes?  You know the bundles of dried sage that hippies like to burn?  It’s not just for hippies anymore.  Or maybe I’m becoming a hippie?  Who knows, but I’m all about it.

So what if we made our own with herbs + flowers?  They are so damn pretty, even if you don’t burn them and displayed just for looks.  Although, you should totally burn them (that’s the hippie in me coming out).

I’m going to break down the whole smudging thing right now…..

Why smudge?

Sage is traditionally burned in Native American ceremonially rituals.  The smoke from the burning smudges stick is said to cleanse of bad feelings + negative thoughts + bad spirits + negative energy.  I know I’m totally loosing you, but whether or not this is true, is up for debate.  I’m a believer!  And who doesn’t want to want to rid of all the negative shit?

When to smudge?

  • when you move into a new space
  • begin a new job
  • when you’re feeling angry + upset or negative
  • anytime you feel a conflict in your life
  • a struggling relationship
  • significant life event: marriage + birth + death + sickness

{kaia BRIK goals}

So, Kaia Fit Woodland BRIK began.  We’re right smack dab in week #2.  It’s been hardcore.  But, I love it!

I’ve gotten questions about when I’ll be sharing my pre-BRIK weight/measurements.  Well, I’m not!  I didn’t even do weight/measurements, to be honest.  No numbers.  No photos.  Not happening.

Here’s the scoop……

I generally consider myself to have a pretty healthy view of body image.  At 36, I have definitely spent years with my fair share of sad thoughts and imperfect expectations.  But for the most part, I feel like I’ve overcome insecurities + learning to be more and more confident.  Until the other day……

I let the scale ruin my day.  Sure it wasn’t what I wanted to see.  But the saddest part of it all is that I let that number (I mean numbersssss) define my day.

And that’s not ok!

So I’m doing BRIK a little different this time around.

Fucking Friday!  Excuse my French, but I’m clearly really happy about it!  What a week.  Tomorrow is Kentucky Derby + Cinco de Mayo….Trying to figure out a fun way to celebrate the both of them in one day. Hmmm!   Patron is definitely on the menu either way…Ha!

Before you let loose and start celebrating, let’s quickly chat about 5 things first, K?……

 

 

ONE – Patron // RUNNNNN, don’t walk to Nugget.  Today!  Or tomorrow, if they don’t run out of ta-kill-ya.  Patron (little bottles) are on sale for about 1/2 off.  Making them $15/bottle!  You won’t EVER find it that cheap again.  Trust me.  I’m a loyal Patron Silver gal.  I pulled up to Nugget at about 5:55 am to grab my two bottle limit.  And what to my surprise to find my homegirl Jessie parked right in front of me…lol.  We were legit the very first peeps to enter the store.  Picture the commercial where the chicks are standing at the slider doors chanting, Open, Open, Open!  We beelined for the pinche patron.  Took a quick pic and headed out.  Everyone else was ordering coffee and breakfast.  Not us.  Nope!  Just tequila.  Two bottles each…lol.  Now I’m ready for some Skinny, Skinny Margs!

I should have added this to my Mother’s Day Gift Guide!  BTW,  Thank you for the great response on the gift guide.  I truly rack my brain to come up with fun new things that I think every Mama would enjoy!

TWO – Spring Show // What these girls have been looking forward to since January.  All their hard work is about to pay off!  Bay had a tough year with Rodeo (her pig).  Damn pig just wouldn’t gain like we planned/hoped/wanted.  But do you see that smile?  That’s the smile of a girl who’s pig made weight!  226 lbs to be exact.  Of course we’d hoped for a 275 pounder, but that definitely wasn’t in the cards this year.  The minimum is 200, so that is the smile of a girl who gets to show + sell her pig!  After stressing the last month or so, that she may not be able to.  And at the end of that day, that’s all that really matters!  Proud of you Bay ♥

THREEKaia BRIK // You guys, I survived week #1, barely.  It was touch and go Wednesday…lol.  The challenge/fit test this time around is straight up brutal.  It goes something like this: Jump rope (the devil).  Squat thrust.  Run (the biggest devil). Reverse lunge.  Run (again).  Push-ups.  Run (a-fucking-gain).  KB swings.  Followed by an ab workout.  I die.  Not really, but I hardly made it out alive.  My body hurts so good.  And in other news, I haven’t miss a class in 3 whole weeks.  This is a pretty big deal for me.

I’ve received a few messages asking when I’ll be posting my Pre-BRIK weight/measurements.  Post will be coming next week, but it’s going to be a little different that before.  I’m in the switching shit up kinda mood lately.  So, I’m also doing BRIK (personally) a bit different this time around.  Stay tuned!

FOUR – Back Patio // I read that if you move your outdoor table right off the main door, you’re likely to use it more.  I really like the sound of that.  So, this week I did some re-arranging.  And it’s true.  The backyard or patio, in my case, is much more inviting.  This week alone, I’ve spent more time in the back than I have since we moved here in September.  I planted a bunch of succulents + plants too.  Once we get our potted herb garden all done, then I’ll share more on our small space.  In the meantime, I highly recommend re-locating your outdoor table visible from your main back door.  It’s entirely too nice out to not go and enjoy it more!
