{what to wear to thanksgiving}

img_4074

Two days till the biggest cheat day of the year…HA!

Therefore I’m opting for stylish yet comfortable.  You know, so that you don’t have to worry about eating that second piece of pie.

Speaking of pie, I’m baking a new one tonight.  Pumpkin pie in a graham cracker crust?  Raise your hand if you LOVE graham cracker crust too!   I have NO idea if it’s going to be good.  So, I’m making 2.  One for tonight to test and one for thanksgiving.  Don’t even trip, I’m gonna tell you all about it!

I put together two Turkey day looks that I would actually wear.  I keep seeing chicks posting dresses.  Do people really wear dresses on Thanksgiving?

{thanksgiving table setting // DIY centerpiece}

img_3524

Hi friends!  If you follow me on instagram, then you know my heart is 100% Christmas.  Butttt, I am hosting my family for Thanksgiving.  What do you think they’ll say when they see I have a mixture of Christmas garland + wreaths + pumpkins?  Ha!  Most likely nothing.  Nothing at all.  They know how batshit crazy I am by now 🙂

img_3526

BIG thank you to everyone for voting on my instagram poll this morning.  This setting won.  Although, it was really close.

img_3519

I threw together this pumpkin centerpiece over the weekend.  The things I do for a table setting.  It will definitely be rotten by Thanksgiving.  But, I was dying to do a little DIY.  Whenever I’m creating with my hands, I’m the most happy.  Whether that means cooking.  Rearranging.  Planting.  Organizing.  It makes me really frickin happy.

img_3517

I found these Hearth & Hand Stoneware mini pedestals at Target and knew I’d find a way to incorporate them some how.  Tealights are in Spice jars – World Market.

Found them for cheap.  6 for $6.  Pop the top off and you’re good to go.  I love the shape.  The eucalyptus clipping was the finishing touch.

img_3520

I love adding a clipping to the back of these target chairs too!  The burlap ribbon, I leave it there year round.

img_3522

These plates have seen more food.  Ha!  They are my everyday dishes.  Super affordable, I’m talking $20 and come in a set of 12.  They make a great gift for the hostess with the most too!   Along with the gold flatware (it’s 20% off).  Although we don’t use it daily, I don’t hesitate to pull it out.  Dishwasher safe and they come out like new!

img_3525

I really wanted to keep this table simple.  Mainly because, I’m ready to set it for Christmas…lol.  I’ve got too many ideas.  It’s killing me to wait.

Here’s a little video I took to give you a closer look!

Garland Eucalyptus Pinecone

{all the things // target hearth + hand}

Today is going to be a fine day. I’ve been writing down 5 thing each morning that I’m grateful for.  Obviously health, home, food + water…always number one.

But what really put the extra pep in my step today…

Getting my hair done last night.  Blonde af + a fresh blunt cut can really make this girls day!!  Thanks Allison!

Pulling out all my Christmas tubs.  You should have seen the look on Cory’s face when I asked him to put up the outdoor light today.  He’s a man of many faces, but this one is my favorite.  It’s a mix of confusion and disgust.  And it straight up kills me.  He said not till after Thanksgiving.  I think we settled with, I promise not to plug them in till after Thanksgiving.  Fair….I think!

Hopping on the scale this morning and I’ve lost 4 lbs since Sunday!  #sugarcleanse shared all the details on the blog yesterday {on wednesdays we wear pink}

Bay kissing me goodbye at the middle school drop off line ♥

And last, but certainly not least – The holiday Hearth + Hand collection at Target. Thanks to everyone that voted….I went with the eucalyptus garland.

And today I’m sharing ALL THE THINGS I fell in love with at good ol Target!

Just a warning – Target is very, very dangrous this time of year…lol!

I spent wayyy more time than I like to admit at Target lately.   Here’s a few things I’ve picked up so far.  And everything I’ve got my eye on!

Sweater $16 // Denim // Mules $18(similar)

Another day, another Old Navy sweater!  Old Navy is HOT right now.  Words I don’t think have ever left my mouth…HA!  But, for reals – you cannot beat those price tags + promo codes.  They have relevant styles and way better quality than I remember from the good ol days.

Before we get to that, I’m going to chat about my sugar cleanse for a minute.  If you DGAF….keep scrolling.  All my outfit details + top Old Navy picks are below.  I’ve been getting lots of questions, so let’s break it down real quick……

WHY

I’ve chatted before about why I cut sugar from my diet.  You can read about it here: {no sugar, no problem…sike} Basically, these jeans I’m wearing right here.  They are getting tight.  And I really like them, so I better get my shit together.  You know what I mean?  But, there are about 7 other reasons too.

HOW

I start each cleanse with a 2-day meal plan (below).  And the 3-day renew life cleanse.  Just trust me.  The combo does wonders and I feel so good within those first few days.  The 3-day cleanse you can find at Target and Nugget for $7.  I wrote about it more here: {friday 5}

Renew Life 3 day-cleanse

2.jpg

I legit yanked this out of a Women’s Health magazine at Oasis about 5 years ago.  Sorry Melika.  I keep it on the side of my fridge.

1.jpg

Breakfast – smoothie (I follow the recipe above) in my opinion, it’s the worst part of the 2-days

Snack #1 – cucumbers + vinegar + dill with a cup of green tea

Lunch – ground turkey + spinach + cilantro + green onions.  I top it with a shit-ton of hot sauce.

Snack #2 – should be asparagus.  I opted for carrots since the asparagus at the grocery store looked nasty.  With another mug of hot green tea.

Dinner – roast salmon + spinach + red onion + little olive oil + LOTS of lemon

In the evenings – you know, wine time + chill time?  I immediately brush my teeth.  Meaning kitchen is closed…NO MORE FOOD.  Ha!  Then follow-up with lot’s of green tea.  Especially the night your kid decided to try out a new chocolate chip cookie recipe.  Not gonna lie, I 100% snuck a bite of the dough.  #qualitycontrol

After the 2-day thing is over.  I stick to a strict no added sugar diet.  I don’t do fruit, because I don’t care for it.  I will use some brown rice here and there.  Sweet potatoes.  Homemade nut butters.  NO wine.  No beer.  No TJ’s dark chocolate covered almonds.  The struggle is real.  A clean diet.  Lots of protein + veggies.  With a few Skinny, Skinny Margs on the weekends.

HOW LONG

I was originally thinking till the end of the week.  But, who knows.  Maybe till Thanksgiving?

Now let’s get back to this outfit 🙂

{weekend notes}

Hello Monday. May your coffee be strong and your week short! I woke up and immediately practiced gratitude this morning. I wrote down the first 5 things that came to mind that I’m truly grateful for. Instead of thinking about all the things I wasn’t looking forward to. It really works. Try it! We had another relaxing weekend. Friends + family + good food + good wine! Lots of laughs. We even snuck in a date night.

Intentions for the Week:

* VOTE!!

* Get my hair done…cannot fucking wait

* Go to be early. The more zzz’s the more better

* Pull out the Christmas tubs

* Plan our Thanksgiving menu

* Hit 15k steps per day

* Stay off the sugar. Goodbye chardonnay 😭

* Share all the things Target

* Not get sick

Highlights from the weekend…..

Doesn’t everyone show up to their homegirls house looking homeless AF? Budweiser sweatshirt + slippers for my Friday night #ootd

These two fell asleep and Tiger Raptor messed with them the whole time.

When Bubba shows up in his new G-ride. When’s the last time you saw a Miata?

Oops….I found Bays stash 🍫

Breakfast for lunch

Meal preppin. Going sugar free AGAIN. Pray for me k? Turkey + lots of spices + spinach + onion. Clean AF!

img_2046

But first, we’re having enchiladas. Look at that filling though. Sharing this one mañana.

img_2047

Another day, another tall boy. This time my fave BLL. Now you see why the sugar cleanse is happening? Lol.

img_2051

Date Night. I seriously made reservations for the restaurant that I’ve been dying to try. Put on my new dress. Told him to pick me up at 6. And it worked.

We stopped at The Barn in West Sac. It just officially opened over the weekend.

img_2090

Such a cool spot. As you can see, it looks really cool too.

img_2073

Situated on the Sac River. In a big open area off to the side of Raley Field.

Family friendly. Dog friendly.

Pizza oven and food trucks. You can totally bring your own snacks to. Which is really cool. Bring a picnic blanket or they have lawn chairs you can use. The really did think of it all.

Outdoor seating. Live music. Fire pits. Lawn games.

img_2082

Beer! Lots of beer. I believe they said 50 on tap.

img_2059

This was a ring on a string. You release it and aim for a little hook on the pole. This kid was really good. Cory picked his brain for a bit, but still failed to make one.

img_2069-3

They also serve wine and cocktails. We stuck with beer.

img_2071

Pretty views too. You can see Raley field and the Bridge.

img_2066

When you have a couple beers and find the perfect selfie mirror. You don’t give AF about the girl trying to wash her hands in the back or the fact the public restroom is a complete mess. Lol. Anything for the gram! Linking everything you see here below.

{old navy try-on}

Over the weekend, Bay and I hit up Old Navy!  It was actually my second trip within the week. You guys, they’ve got some cute shit right now.  Those price tags are legit too. I found some great J.Crew + Abercrombie dupes (look-a-likes for a fraction of the price)

Old Navy is a great place for simple basics. Cardigans. Tees. Sweaters. Especially today – everything, even clearance, is marked down 30%. No code needed 🙌🏻

I’m totally loving their buy online store pick-up. Does that even make sense? Truth – Old Navy online prices are always, without a doubt, better than in-store. So you buy all your shit online, select the store. Then pick it up. Ordered are ready within the hour and are held for up to 7 days. I’ll chat more about it at the end of true post too.

Bay came along and I taught her ALL THE THINGS dressing room try-on. You gotta start then young, right lol.

And I almost died when I realized Bay is now in women’s sizes.  What the hell? All the girls styles looked so toddler-ish. So, we grabbed some x-smalls and to my surprise….they FIT!

We even grabbed a cardigan that we can share. Talk about eye-opening. My girl is almost as tall as me too.

Anyway, we snapped some pics of the things we picked up. Some things we passed on this time, but still really liked. And a few items have been added to the good ol Christmas List.

Here are some of our faves!

Slim-Fit Curved-Hem Thermal-Knit Tee for Women

We both agreed this was our favorite tee. Super soft and I always love a curved-hem. Looks great front tucked or untucked.  ONLY $9!  I’d recommend grabbing a couple of colors!

img_1836

Ruffled-Shoulder Lace-Trim Shirt

Reminds me of the J.Crew Ruffle-neck eyelet top except this one is only $23!  And I actually prefer the sleeves on this Old Navy top better than the expensive one.

img_1834

Relaxed Classic Soft-Brushed Twill Shirt (white plaid)

If you ask me, there is NO such thing as too many plaid shirts.  They come in so many color + print options, I say the more the merrier!  This one is a little longer, making it perfect for a front knot (without showing your belly) and front tuck.

img_1835

Bay Slim-Fit Rib-Knit Mock-Neck Tee //  Me Ruffle-Trim Clip-Dot Top

LOVE this mock turtleneck on Bay.  She said it’s for old ladies though.  WTF?  Ha!  Old lady or not, I dig the color combo.  My top is so much better in person.  Super flattering.  And ONLY $23!

{friday 5}

It’s Friday (hu-frickin-ray)!  Honestly, it’s really hard to believe October is coming to an end next week.  I feel like I cannot keep up with this year?  Anyone else?  I’ve got the Holidays on my mind BIG TIME.  I’ve started shopping too.  Which is one of my Holiday goals.  And after the Serendipity Boutique + bella moda boutique Christmas Preview last night, my wheels are spinning.

Weekend plans: My to-do list is staring me down.  It’s been growing longer each day this week.  I’ve been so swamped with work, I hardly have time to check my email or order my groceries.  I’ve been on survival mode…lol.  Tonight Bay and I are having a date night.  Mani’s + pizza + watching La La Land (she hasn’t seen it yet).  I can’t wait to sleep in.  Spend some time with friends.  Possibly get wine tips with Alex.  Maybe church?  God knows I need a little church in my life.

Before I let you get your weekend started, let me quickly chat about 5 things on my mind…..

ONETurkey On The Table //  Kinda like Elf on the Damn Shelf, but for Thanksgiving.  Except, it’s not a pain in the ass at all.  And you don’t have to move it daily.  So, basically it’s nothing like Elf on The Damn Shelf…lol.  It’s more of a lesson on being grateful.  I’m all about gratitude.  I actually started practicing it daily, thanks for #last90days challenge.  Here’s how it works…for every day in November, write down something you are thankful for on the paper feather.  Each family member can take turns or everyone can write on the same one.  It’s totally up to you.  Place it somewhere that you’ll see it.  On Thanksgiving day, you’ll have a “fully dressed” turkey to display.  You can then read all the thankful feathers aloud.  It’s such a cute idea.  And the best part, for each Turkey on The Table purchased, 10 meals will be provided to someone in need through Feeding America.

TWO – Currently Reading // I had to ditch my last audio book.  So many great reviews, but the voice-over was absolutely terrible.  If you’re an audio book listener, then you get it.  Picked up Reese Witherspoons new Whiskey in a Teacup : What Growing Up in the South Taught Me About Life, Love, and Baking BiscuitsBest part, she’s actually the reader of her own book.  Which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before?  Anyway, it’s so cute and lighthearted…I’m really diggin it.  I also grabbed Chrissy Teigen’s newest cookbook Cravings: Hungry for More And she nailed it.  Everything looks so good.  I can’t wait to dive into it more this weekend and dog ear some pages to add to my “must make list!”  What are you reading?  Anything good I should add to my list next?

It’s Friday.  I got a job.  And I’ve got a shit-ton to do.  Ha!  But, I don’t have a single plan for the whole damn weekend.  You guys, I’m going to drink coffee on my couch in my PJ’s tomorrow morning.  And again Sunday morning too.  It’s been so long.  And maybe a little day-date with my girl.  Nephews football game.  Meal prep.  Outfit prep.  Done!  Oh, I did splurge and grab some extra wine.  So, I’ll be gettin tips too!  I almost forgot… the one thing I’m most looking forward to (other than drinking wine + coffee obvi) shampooing the seats in my car…Ha!  It’s the little things peeps.  Have a great weekend friends.

Before I let you go……

Let’s chat about 5 things on my mind real quick!

ONE – A Star Is Born // Oh man everyone keeps saying how great the new Gaga + Bradley Cooper movie is.  I have my fingers crossed I can sneak away at some point and go see it.  For those of you that have seen it….on a scale from 1 to 10.  How good is it?

You can watch the movie trailer here: A Star Is Born movie trailer

Threshold Decorative Basket Natural with leather strap

TWO – Target Basket // Posted a photo of the basket I found at Target yesterday.  You guys clearly liked it as much as I did.  My ShopStyle account as of this morning showed 5 basket orders.  BIG thank you to all of you for clicking on my affiliate links and placing orders.  Today, my first ShopStyle check posted for $47 and I’m fucking giddy…lol.

I found inspo image with a similar hanging basket for my girlfriend Nicole.  She has the best front porch.  She picked up the Target basket yesterday and I can’t wait to see how she styles it!

Hello FRIDAY!  And good morning from the Oregon coast.

Five things on my mind….

ONE – Portland // I woke up in Portland this morning.  Cory planned + booked this trip for us all on his own.  The planner in me wasn’t too sure how I felt about it at first..lol.  But, we’re here and we’ve got so many fun things planned for the next couple of days.  Today we’re off to Cannon Beach.  Goonies never say die!  It’s been on my bucket list for years and I’m so happy we’re finally checking it off the list.  But first breakfast cocktails. Morning mules. Stay tuned for a shit-ton of Portland pics 🙂

img_7552

TWO – Centerpiece // Sneak peek at my Fall Table.  Which is coming next week.  I created another pumpkin + succulent centerpiece.  Back in October 2015, I shared the DIY.  {friday 5} Going back 3 years on this blog is really crazy FYI!  Anyway, its super simple.  And I got tons of questions about it.  I will go into more detail next week, but you really just need a pumpkin + succulents + moss + glue gun.  That’s it!

Life is busy and there are never enough hours in the day.  Girl, I get it.  We’re all busy AF!  Trying to keep up with kids, family, friends, work fitness…the struggle is real.  But, you just gotta schedule a little time for yourself.  No matter what it is.  Do something that makes you feel good.  Relax.  Rejuvenated.

Self care looks different for everyone.  Some think fancy spa days.  For others it can be cozying up with a good book.  Whatever it means to you, just do it.  Treat yo self!

Here’s how we practice self-care in our home……

Typically Sunday’s are our weekly self-care day for the week.  Bay and I do all the things we love the most…..
