{marbled pumpkin diy}

I’m a big fan of no carve pumpkins.  Until, the day before Halloween.  We all know once they are carved…they are dead in a day or so.  Full of bugs.  Stinky.  But I’m still all about making them pretty + festive for Halloween.

Bay’s 4-H club hosts a no carve pumpkin contest every October meeting.  All the pumpkins are then donated to a rest home to be enjoyed.  LOVE this so much.

We had to get to work a little early and get a pumpkin decorated for next week.

These nail polish marbled pumpkins caught my eye.  They were all over social media this week.  I’m sure you saw all the different methods.

Clicked on the link.

I have ALL the materials needed.

Making them.  Like, TODAY!

Holiday Whore in full effect over here!

Who’s with me?

I had to pay $80 this morning to keep blogging.  Really?  I couldn’t upload anymore pictures.  All my gigs were used.  I bought 10 more and I’m good to go.  I couldn’t leave you all hangin!  Haha!!

At least it’s Friday!  And I have plans to eat Pho tonight.  Soooo, that makes it a little better.

Friday 5 means I’ve got 5 things on my mind……..

ONE – Thai Pasta Salad // I swear I’ve shared this gem before?!?!  I searched the blog and couldn’t find it anywhere.  Just for good measure I’ll share it again.  Because, it’s a keeper.  A crowd pleaser.

My photo really doesn’t do it justice.  It looks so boring.  But, trust me – it’s NOT!  This salad is packed with flavor.  Sesame oil…need I say more?

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 package angel hair pasta (1lb)
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • ¼ cup corn oil
  • ½ cup sesame oil
  • 6 tablespoons honey (seka hills preferably)
  • 5 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cilantro, chopped
  • ¾ cup peanuts, chopped
  • ½ cup green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Cook noodles, drain.  In a sauce pan, stir in red pepper flakes, corn oil & sesame oil over medium heat for 2 minutes.  Add honey, soy sauce and salt.  Mix well with noodles.  Cover and refrigerate for several hours. (I make mine the night before)

When ready to serve, add chopped cilantro, peanuts, green onion to noodles.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve.

Is your mouth-watering?  Mine is.  My sister is making a double recipe for my Dad’s 60th birthday party this weekend….SCORE!!!

TWO – Have you ever heard of Julie Ann Art?  She’s so bad ass guys.  I’ve purchased many of her cards.  Her art speaks to me!  Check them out here.  Anyway, she released her new coffee mug designs.  Could it possibly get any better?  I think not!  These two mugs are me….to a T!   Best part, they come as a fucking set!  These were just too good not to share.

{weekend notes}

Happy Monday!  The weekend is gone and I already miss it so much.  All I did this weekend was cook + kick it.  Like I kicked it hard.  Like chillin like a villain kicked it.    More than I have all year.  It was so nice.

When I got in my car this morning to drive to work, I realized that I hadn’t left my house in over 24 hours.  That NEVER happens.  I was a sweatpants wearing, couch sitting, tv watching lazy ass and I loved every second of it.

Today is the day – BIG news at our house…..Bailey has decided to fun for the Plainfield Elementary Student Council Treasurer.  I’m so proud of her for wanting to do this and signing-up all on her own.

Bailey said Lauren inspired her which is the sweetest thing ever.

Posters went up today!  Speeches next week.  Followed by the election.  I’m crazy excited for her.  Obviously hoping and praying she wins, but knowing it will be a huge learning experience if she doesn’t too.  Maybe I can sneak into the school and cast 100 votes!?!  Only kidding.  Fair and square is the only way I want her to win!

Thank god Korine was over to help with the posters.   Come on, how cute are these girls and the posters?!?!

“If it doesn’t make dollars, then it doesn’t make cents”

“Vote for me – Bailey B.”

“123….count on Bailey B for Treasur-y”

I mean, could they be any cuter?

Korine – we have to celebrate after the election, I owe you BIG time ♥

Friends that come over for breakfast and stay for dinner, those are the good ones.  The ones you keep forever!

Bailey’s snapchat was proof of our laziness 🙂

{concrete pumpkin planter diy}

Today I will be sharing the ever so popular concrete pumpkin planter diy with all my readers.

You guys, it’s pretty damn simple and doesn’t cost much at all.  I’ve made 8 so far and spent a total of $20.  That’s roughly $2.50 each.  The succulents and flowers cost me more than double that!!  7 items are needed and you will have most of them in your house already.

Mastering this DIY took a couple of shots.  So bear with me…..

The first DIY I found and followed called for concrete mix.  So I walked my happy ass into True Value and bought a 60 lb bag.  I get home and made my first pumpkin planter.  It turned out ok, like ok enough for me, but not to give to anyone else.  The face was not nearly as clear as these below.  So, my second time around, I sifted all the rock from the concrete mix.  Basically took forever.  And I realized that more than half the bag was rock.  I ended up with hardly anything once the rock was sifted out.  The pumpkin planter turned out 100 times better than the first though.

With a little help from homeboy Ed at Home Depot, I tried a bag of mortar.  Ed is the shit and deserves a raise, by the way!!!  He was on point.  NO more sifting rocks.  Just add water and voila – perfect brownie like consistency mix.

Remember I told you I mastered this DIY…haha!  It took a couple tries to get it right.  But, once I did, I pumped them out like a pumpkin planter factory.

{boo to you from our crew}

{image via}

It’s that time of year again friends.  Remember last year when I wrote about the fun Boo tradition we’ve been doing for years?  You can ready about it here.  Think I gave all my homies a total guilt trip.  Bailey was Booed three times last year because of it.  LOL!  Sorry, guys!

Bailey and I went out late Monday night to get our Booing on.  By the way, door bell ditching when you’re 10 years old is like the coolest thing EVERRRRR.  Bay thought she was so sly creeping up to the front doors.

{weekend notes}

I wish I woke up to these two cuties and breakfast in bed today too.  They planned it all out and surprised me Sunday morning.  I just love them and how thoughtful they are.  Do you see the little purple flowers too ♥

This weekend flew by….anyone else feeling the same?

I canned with my canning partner in crime, Toni.  We began canning about 6 years ago.  Jalapeno jelly was our first jelly we made.  So damn good.  Like Preserve in Winters good.  We’ve since canned diced tomatoes, stewed tomatoes, peach jelly, strawberry jam….I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting.  We drink champs, catch up on life and make good shit!

We tried something new this time.  Wine jelly.  Sounds crazy, huh?  I love wine and if you could only smell it cooking in this pot with cinnamon sticks, peppercorns and orange sliced.  It was amazing.  So if the jelly doesn’t turn out as we hoped (which I have no doubt it will be amazing) then a house air freshener will do 🙂

{friday 5}

Happy Friday!!  Is it just me, or did this week fly by?  I’m not by any means complaining!!  It’s Friday, my fave day of the week and I’m ready for the weekend.  One of my homies (friends since 2nd grade) is coming to Woodlone today and I’m pumped to kick it with her.

ONE – Remember yesterday on my {fall to-do’s}

  • Make 3 outfits that are out of my comfort zone?

I’d say I’ve achieved one of the three!  No, it’s not a onesie. It’s a bodysuit.  Yes, I bought a bodysuit.  Totally out of my comfort zone, but guess what???  It’s so fucking cute.  Scroll down and check out the back of the top.  It’s the most flattering cutout and allows you to still wear a bra without the straps showing.

It’s marked down to $18 today!  And it comes in a wine red color too.  I’ve already wore it once and might pop it on tonight too.  Looks perf with denim and how about a skirt?  shorts?  (I mean it is still like 90 degrees in California)

American Eagle is on fire right now.  So much cute shit.  Check out all the other bodysuit options they offer….OMG!  The long-sleeved lace has my name all over it!!

This isn’t even half of them.  Click here to view them ALL!

TWO – Jack-O-Lantern Stuffed Bell Pepper // I had too.  I had leftover turkey + chicken sausage meat sauce + orange bell peppers sitting in the fridge, so what else would one do?  Busted out the Martha Stewart x-acto knife and started carving away.

Once I had my jack-o-lantern all carved out, I layered:

  • meat sauce
  • chopped baby spinach leaves
  • pesto
  • fresh mozzarella cheese (not the bagged shit)
  • repeat

Baked in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.  So easy and so festive.  Bailey isn’t a fan of bell peppers?!?!  Crazy, I know!  She dumped the filling out on her plate and ate it without the jack-o-lantern.  I scarfed the whole damn thing in about 2.5 minutes flat.

Speaking of Jack-O-Lanterns….

#idim (I did it myself) how cute is that.  Gotta remember that one.
