{weekend notes}

Just another Magic Monday. Switching it up. Moday’s don’t have to be manic. Let’s make them magic. What do you think? After a full 7 hours of sleep last night (which I never, ever get) I did NOT wake up refreshed and ready for the day. But, instead of thinking about how shitty today could be. I’m turning it around and thinking of all the ways it can me magic. I know, sounds corny, but my mind + heart can make or break my day. So, this is working for me….so far!

Hope you all had a great weekend.

This past weekend was sprinkled with a healthy dose of family + friends + sunshine + relaxation. It was pretty damn good!

To say I am excited for the season change is an understatement. I’m pretty sure you’re all sick and tired of hearing me talk about it. HA! Yesterday was Summer Bucket List. Today a Fall GIVEAWAY!

First I want to THANK YOU for a few things……

Today I published my 944th blog post.

Next month marks my 4th year blogging. CRAZY!

Today marks ONE year since I signed up and began using  Shop Style Collective. Almost every item, fashion + home I can now make a small commission on. That is, if you click on the link, like what you see and purchase.

If you shop though my links on instagram or my blog, I GREATLY appreciate it. Whether you’ve shopped a link once or continue to do so I am extremely grateful.

I was able to surpass my one year goal with my ShopStyle account by a landslide!

With August being my best month yet!

Insert: happy dance!!!

And that’s all because of YOU! It takes a lot of time and effort to find sales and link every item, but it’s something I truly love to do. And I hope you continue to follow along!

Short weeks are the goddamn death of me. I just can’t get my shit together. But, I’ve got my eye on the prize……Friday is gonna be here before we know it! Whoop!

I did just spend about an hour updating my calendar and oh dang. It’s about to get cray. Oh – Bay made the Lee Middle School 8th grade volleyball team. So excited for her. Which is part of the oh dang part when I updated my calendar. Plus Faith Formation starts. Omega Nu began last night and 4-H is back in effect on Monday. I say this every September, it’s the busiest + most expensive time of the year.

So, I went to Trader Joe’s + Target on my lunch break to get my mind off my calendar. Ha! Totally makes since right?

You guys, Target is HOT. I mean, like better than ever. So fucking dangerous.

The seasonal section is ALL THE THINGS. Then I hit the Women’s clothing section and went crazy!

{thanksgiving kids table // graham cracker crust pumpkin pie}

img_4319

My dining room table isn’t large enough accommodate the whole fam-bam.  Someday when I grow up (I say this all the time..Ha) I’ll have a table that can seat an army!  Until then, we shall set up the kids table.

Not just a boring kids table though.  A fun + entertaining table is key.  They stay busy = you get to enjoy your wine + pie with a little peace…HA!  Love them to death, but let’s be real.

img_4318

I’m also sharing my graham cracker crust pumpkin pie.  Which I’m really sad to announce…I can’t take the credit for inventing.  Bobby Flay patented it about 8 fucking years ago.  What the hell.  As soon as you think you’re onto something BOMB.  Google it and it’s already been done!

Which isn’t always the worst thing.  I honestly had NO idea how long to bake.  So I followed Bobby’s baking directions, which gave me the perfectly set pies!

And how about this kids table.  The activity table-cloth is so perfect.  And the leaves.  My Mom collected each one of them at Casini Ranch while camping last weekend.  They have the most gorgeous trees that were dropping these giant leaves.  Thanks Mom!

img_4317

I kept it simple using everything I had on-hand.  Including the used to be white mini pumpkins that are now yellow-ish.  I did buy them in September, so I should stop bitching.  Coloring crayons…we’ve all got some lying around.  Poured some Trader Joe’s chocolate covered sunflower seeds…mainly for the color factor.  But, for snacking too!

This color on activity tablecloth is from the one, the only….Target.  There is a word search for the older kids.  A pumpkin + turkey maze.  Even a spot to write what they are Thankful for!  Love it so much.  It completed the kids table.

Color In Thanksgiving Tablecloth  $3.50 at Target

Just bring on the turkey…we’re all set over here!

img_4322

Here are some of the recipes we will be enjoying for Turkey day tomorrow:

Cory has our Branigan’s Turkey in brine as I type.  He’s on turkey duty and will be cooking it in an air fryer.  I’ll be sure to snap some pictures tomorrow.

Pioneer Women Creamy Mashed Potatoes the main attraction, if you ask me!

I’ve been making these Stuffing Balls for years. I found the recipe in one of the old Kraft Magazines that used to come out monthly.  Do they still do that?  I sub the ground pork for good ol Jimmy Dean sausage.

My Mom will always be in charge of the gravy.  It’s the one thing that I just can’t get down with on the Thanksgiving menu.  Honestly I can’t even make it without wanting to gag.  Bay’s the same.

Her Pretzel Jello Salad (similar to this one) is probably our “weirdest” side.  Poop-A-Doop, my late Grandfather LOVED this salad.  Really, it’s not even a salad.  It’s a layer of pretzels + sugar + butter.  With a cream cheese center and strawberries + jello on top.  So random, so good!

Kissey will forever bring her favorite side, Campbell’s Classic Green Bean Casserole. She makes it the BEST!!!

Along with canned cranberry (the only way to serve it).  With lots of cans of whole olives to stick on our fingers.

Mom makes homemade rolls that are to die for too!

And for dessert, my Mom is trying a new recipe for mini pecan pies and I’ll be serving my, I mean Bobby Flay’s Graham Cracker Crust Pumpkin Pie (recipe below) with homemade whipped cream (made by Bay)

What’s on your menu?  I love hearing about families one random, kinda weird, side dish they can’t have Thanksgiving without.

Happy Monday Friends!  Not sure what it is about today, but it feels so festive.  I guess we are officially kicking of the first week of the Holidays!!!  I’m at work though…ha!  Just knowing we’re going to finish off the week with turkey + pie…lots of shopping!  Oh, and we’re headed to Tahoe to cut down our tree this year.  Stay tuned, we’ve never done this before.  I’m sure it will be a shit-show.  I have my heart set on a couple of trees this year.  I know, crazy.  Considering I live in a tiny ass condo!

Okay, hold on tight, this week is gonna be over before you know it!

Intentions for the Week:

  • work on some gift guides
  • cut down out Christmas tree(s)
  • american eagle try-on
  • set a cute kids Thanksgiving table
  • drink more water than chardonnay…this is gonna be a hard one!
  • tackle outdoor Christmas decor
  • a new spin on the classic pumpkin pie
  • host Thanksgiving
  • head to the cabin ♥

And here’s a little recap of some of the highlights from our weekend….

{thanksgiving table setting // DIY centerpiece}

img_3524

Hi friends!  If you follow me on instagram, then you know my heart is 100% Christmas.  Butttt, I am hosting my family for Thanksgiving.  What do you think they’ll say when they see I have a mixture of Christmas garland + wreaths + pumpkins?  Ha!  Most likely nothing.  Nothing at all.  They know how batshit crazy I am by now 🙂

img_3526

BIG thank you to everyone for voting on my instagram poll this morning.  This setting won.  Although, it was really close.

img_3519

I threw together this pumpkin centerpiece over the weekend.  The things I do for a table setting.  It will definitely be rotten by Thanksgiving.  But, I was dying to do a little DIY.  Whenever I’m creating with my hands, I’m the most happy.  Whether that means cooking.  Rearranging.  Planting.  Organizing.  It makes me really frickin happy.

img_3517

I found these Hearth & Hand Stoneware mini pedestals at Target and knew I’d find a way to incorporate them some how.  Tealights are in Spice jars – World Market.

Found them for cheap.  6 for $6.  Pop the top off and you’re good to go.  I love the shape.  The eucalyptus clipping was the finishing touch.

img_3520

I love adding a clipping to the back of these target chairs too!  The burlap ribbon, I leave it there year round.

img_3522

These plates have seen more food.  Ha!  They are my everyday dishes.  Super affordable, I’m talking $20 and come in a set of 12.  They make a great gift for the hostess with the most too!   Along with the gold flatware (it’s 20% off).  Although we don’t use it daily, I don’t hesitate to pull it out.  Dishwasher safe and they come out like new!

img_3525

I really wanted to keep this table simple.  Mainly because, I’m ready to set it for Christmas…lol.  I’ve got too many ideas.  It’s killing me to wait.

img_3523

Here’s a little video I took to give you a closer look!

{happy halloween // spider cupcakes}

img_1888

Happy Halloween!  It’s been a full month of all things orange + black + spooky!  We’ve baked.  We’ve decorated (twice).  Pumpkins are carved.  Pumpkin seeds roasted…(my mom’s best batch yet)  Bay DIY’d her costume.

The only thing left…Trick-Or-Treating!

Which is probably my least favorite part of the Holiday..lol!  The kids favorite, the adults…not so much.

img_1908

But, I realized today – this could possibly be that last time my girl dresses up for Halloween.  I was honestly unsure she was even going to be up for it this year.  I think the whole DIY costume really got her in the spirit.  Or the bribes?  HA!

Either way, we are going to Trick-Or-Treat our asses off tonight.  In the dark.  In the cold.  With strangers giving our kids candy.

I will have a wine in hand, though so I can’t complain too much.

Here’s to our kids ending up with shit-tons of Reese’s!  CHEERS!!!
