{friday 5}

Oh, hello!  And Happy Friday!  It’s the weekend again.  You cant wipe the smile off this girls face today:)  Heading back to Tahoe for a girls weekend.  I foresee lots of laughing.  Empty wine bottles.  Front porch sitting.  Celebrity golf.  Dancing with Arty the Party!  Hey, maybe I’ll hit the Harrah’s jackpot too?  And hopefully, a couple of shades darker (thanks to Tahoe’s dreamy forecast).

Whatever you have planned, enjoy!!

Here’s what I’ve got on my mind today…….

ONE – Mezger Zinnias // “It seems to bring out the best in people” – quoted from the The Davis Enterprise.   I think we can all vouch that this beautiful zinnia farm has brought out the best.  How can you not smile when you pull up to the 2-acre field of colorful zinnias?  Or how about the people you deliver a vase full of these beauties too?  Bay and I spent about 20 minutes last night gathering zinnias for bouquets to deliver to Grammy (a welcome home) + GG (my 92-year-old Grandmother).   We made a big vase for our living room + even saved a few for our night stands.  There’s just something about fresh flowers in the house that make me happy.  Try it, stick a little vase on your nightstand.

BIG thank you to the Mezger family for another Zinnia year ♥

TWO – Sakura // Monday night we celebrated Alex (my ride or die homegirl) birthday!  If you follow along on Instagram Stories, then you saw it all.  Ha.  We had a good time.  As we always do.  I laughed till my stomach hurt.  Isn’t that the best?  When you wake up in the morning and still laugh out loud about the shit you talked about?  Anyway, we left happy + sake drenched.  The food was so good, once again.  Scroll down and take a peek at my tofu dinner.  I cleaned my plate…lol.  I woke up with the hangover of the century though.    Between the bottles of Bogle chard + the sake.  Thanks to our cook.  Or do they call them chefs?  I’m not really sure.  Anyway….he was fucking sake happy.  We all left (minus Melika + Robin) with sake all over our clothes, hair and faces.  “Who wants sake?” will forever be embedded!  ♥

Hope you all had a great weekend!  I’m sure you noticed that I was MIA last week.  I got lots of calls, text + emails asking where the fuck I was…lol.  Honestly it was one of those weeks where I knew I just couldn’t make it all happen.  This space is for fun.  And when I don’t have the time, this is one of the first things I have to put on the back burner.

One of the main reasons this blog didn’t happen…..

As many of you know, Spring Show was last week/weekend.  I spent the entire week going back and forth from the Fairgrounds with this girl.

IMG_7786

Monday + Wednesday were spent getting the fairgrounds ready for all the Spring Show projects to arrive.

Thursday the pigs arrived.  Vet checks and weigh-in.

Barbecue weighed in at 270 lbs.

Friday was Bay’s favorite day.  Farm Connection Day.  The Plainfield 5th graders took a fieldtrip out to the Fairgrounds to see these girls and their pigs ♥

Spring Show neighbors / besties / brothers.

The best part of Farm Connection Day, Lauren (Bay’s idol) came to visit.  Lauren is the sweetest girl…I wrote about the time she took Bay out on an ice cream date here {friday 5}.  Bailey decided that she’s saving all her money from the sale of her pig to buy a car, just like Lauren did.  Thank you Lauren, for being such a great role model of my girl!!!

And can we talk about Laruen’s super cute boots?!?

IMG_7805

Friday night was show time.  But, first we make a pit stop for a french braid.  Some day I’m going to learn to french braid, until then – we go to Fricke’s.  Margaritas + braids…lol!  Thanks Alex for hooking us up all weekend 🙂

Love Claire the photo bomber!!

Bay’s dad (aka baby daddy) even made it in time to watch bay show.

IMG_7823

Some of their biggest fans came out to watch…Aunt Penny + Tyler

And of course GG ♥

Bay didn’t place for showmanship, but she did a great job out there.

She did place 3rd in her class for Market.  Which made the 6 hour wait all worth it!  This was around 10:30 pm Friday night.

{weekend notes}

The weekend came and the weekend went.  Just like that.  Back to work.  Back to school.  Back to the weekly grind.  And I’m ready for it.

How was your weekend?  Too fast?  Yep, ours too.  Here are some of the highlights……

Friday night at Blue Note Brewery.   This has become our Friday night meeting spot.  Beers + catch up sesh with the family.  And I love it.

IMG_7313.JPG

Tio + the kids played hookie and went to Six Flags.  No ASES camp for these little crazies.  Perfect ending to Spring Break.

Pizza Pizza!  And wine.  Have I mentioned that I love pizza?  Kidding….lol!  Everyone knows my love for pizza is real.  Real BIG!  Especially Steve’s pizza.

IMG_7315.JPG

Bay on the roof…FML!

IMG_7320.JPG

Watching Joe + his travel ball team play.  Joe got his first hit.  Racking up $100.  Not bad kiddo, not bad.  He text me “where you at” after his game to collect.  Love him!!!

Strawberry picking at Pacific Star Gardens.  Have you ever checked  this place out?  It’s the little tented produce stand on Co Rd 99.  Pacific Star announced last week that their certified organic Chandler strawberries were ready for picking.  And Bay found a strawberry shortcake trifle recipe that she was dying to try out.  It was meant to be!!

Grab one of these buckets.  Follow the strawberry signs out to the berry field.  Pick as many as your heart desires.  I guess the key is go early.  We were later in the afternoon, but still plenty of ripe berries for these kids to pick.

When you go back under the tent to return your bucket, there is a scale to weigh the berries.  At $3/lb you really can’t beat it.  Stick cash in the slot and your good to go!

FullSizeRender (21).jpg

Melons and tomatoes are coming soon!  Go “like” Pacific Star Gardens on Facebook to stay updated on what’s available for picking.

IMG_7325.JPG

Impromptu Easter egg hunt.  When you’ve got filled eggs, you throw them out in the grassy field on Gibson and let the kids loose.

IMG_7329.JPG

DK’s Pizza fun!  Pizza two nights in a row?  Sure, why not?  And they all needed a turn to spin the wheel!

As you can see, Charley won an ice cream cone.  That face though!!!

IMG_7333.JPG

Riding with Papa.  Loaded up the bikes and headed to Prarie City for the morning.  My Dad has all three grandkids on dirt bikes now.  They love it.

My girl!!!

Benny and those training wheels ♥

Bay baked!  Well, kind of.  More like assembled.  Strawberry Shortcake Trifles.

Taste testing the homemade whip cream.  As you can see, it was pretty damn good!

Welcome back, FRIDAY!!  I think I can speak for everyone when I say we misssssed you!  This week was pretty standard…..appointments + meetings + barn duty + etc…with all that aside, it was an interesting week.  I cant help but smile and laugh thinking about the way life has a funny way of working itself out, ya know?  I clearly don’t have it all figured out, that’s for fucking sure, but constantly reminding myself to trust the timing of my life and that I’m right where I’m supposed to be.  Little deep for a Friday?  Yessss…

Enough about that shit!  The best part of this weekend?  We have almost zero plans.  Sleeping in.  Coffee in my pj’s.  Lot’s of baking for Miss Bailey, I’m sure.  Dinner in the backyard.  Did you see the weather forecast?!?!  Bring on the weekend!!

First I’ve got 5 things on my mind……

ONE – #myoshproject // OSH is hosting another Kids class.  Leprechaun Lantern Nightlight making.  So cute, right?  I showed Bay and she looked at me like, Mom – I’m wayyyy too old for that.  But, little does she know, she will be going.  Ha.  I know she will secretly dig it too!

TWO – Please tell me you read Chrissy Teigen’s Open Letter that was released Monday morning?  As if I needed one more reason to love the perfect bitch!  She may be known for her modeling, but she’s also funny AF, a fellow chronic over-sharer, no-filter opinionated, full of hilarious jokes and cooks like a fucking boss.  This article is so real and raw, I even teared up a little….read it!!!

Click on the link below for the full article…..

Chrissy Teigen Open Letter

Chrissy Teigen, 31, is many things: a Sports Illustrated cover girl, a New York Times best-selling cookbook author, a host of the Emmy-nominated TV series Lip Sync Battle and the soon-to-be designer of a fashion line with Revolve. But she’s best known for what her husband, John Legend, calls her: “smart mouth.” She opines on everything from politics to stretch marks, 140 characters a time on Twitter. And her commentary is often so “you took the words out of my mouth!” that all you have to do is hit RT and add the word “PREACH.”

What women love about Teigen is that she is, as she admits, “an open book.” She will show off a perfect seared duck breast—and tell you she accidentally sliced off her fingertip on a mandoline. Ask her about the wildest place she’s had sex? She’ll answer. (An airplane.) She approaches any topic with that same raw, real candor.

But there’s one thing she hasn’t shared yet: After giving birth to her daughter, Luna, last April, Teigen developed postpartum depression, a condition affecting one in nine women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In this exclusive essay forGlamour, she talks about her experience, why she kept it private, and how she’s doing now. And she is as raw and real as ever. Over to you, Chrissy.

THREE – Stir-Fry //  I grabbed a Taylor Farms Stir-Fry Kit at the grocery store last week.  I was looking at the bagged chopped salads (currently obsessed) and I spotted these kits.  Shortcut alert!!!  You know, sometimes the idea of trying to be creative with veggies is exhausting?  I make the same ol stir-fry with asparagus + chicken.  It’s good and all, but its the same thing every time.  These are packed with shaved brussels sprouts + kale.  I would never use that combo on my own.  They each come with a sauce packet too.  Just add your protein (like shrimp + chicken + steak) and bam…dinner in 5 minutes.  seriously!  I served our Teriyaki Stir-Fry with leftover shredded rotisserie chicken over Trader Joes’s brown rice.  BOMB!  You can find them in the bagged salad section at your grocery store.  They are $3 something each!!

ONE – At 10:30am I will no longer be a Hawaii virgin!  Meaning, I’ve never been to Hawaii!  Dirty ass mind!  If you’re reading this, I’m most likely up in the air!  On the longest flight of my life.  See that?  My seat is 15E.  Right smack dab in the middle.  Did I mention that I hate to fly?  This my friends, is why I tend to get a little tipsy before my flights.  This one will be no different.   This is also why my no sugar diet has come to an end!  This is why I was bellied up to the bar before the sun came up.  I’ve even packed my own mini bar.  Being prepared is key, right?  I mean, what do you even do on a 5 hour flight anyway?  I guess drink?  Maybe read?  Pray your neighbor doesn’t stink?  Or snore?  I really have no fucking clue what I will do with my life for five hours stuck in a seat.  Will there be wifi?  Pray!

If you have any Oahu/ North Shore/ Haleiwa recommendations please share.  We are only here for a hot one, but want to check out all the fun cool spots.  Turtle Bay + Lanikai Beach are on the list!!!

TWO – A complete miracle happened last night.  My Triangl swimsuit that was guaranteed to NOT arrive, ARRIVED!!  I could cry.  Maybe it had to do with the couple (few) calls I made to their customer service?!?!  Who cares…it’s here just in the nick of time.  I even overnighted a J.Crew bikini as my plan B, which is definitely going back now.  I’ve had my eye on a Triangl suit since last December!  This is a pretty big deal!!  These neoprene suits come straight from Australia.  The color combos are impossible to choose from.  Take a peek for yourself….

Triangl

Can you guess which one is in that super cute backpack?

IMG_1312.JPG

THREE – Pioneer Women is at it again!  Twelve days of boots!!  Do you play?  I do.  Every single year.  I’ve yet to win, but I’m feeling lucky.  Each day, for 12 days, Pioneer Women posts a pair of gorgeous boots.  All you have to do to enter to win a pair is answer one question.

If you win these boots, who will they go to?

Happy Friday!  I’m so frickin pumped for the weekend plans.  Girlfriends + Family time ♥   Maybe a little champagne too….let’s keep it real!!

It’s Friday and I have 5 things on my mind…..

ONE – Backpacks for Kids // remember I wrote a post about it July?  You can read it here.  THANK YOU, THANK YOU to everyone that helped out this year.  Friends + family + blog readers + Yaya’s.  We did it again.  Dotty Pritchard, President + Executive Director picked up our donation of over 30 filled backpacks and extra supplies this week.  Bailey was the backpack queen.  She made me a list every night of the supplies I need to grab on my lunch break to complete backpacks.  I couldn’t have done it without her!!

It’s not too late to help out.  Click on this link here and you can make a monetary donation anytime.  This organization is so near and dear to my heart.  I can’t wait to get more involved next year.  Stay tuned friends!!

TWO – I broke down and ordered the shades of my dreams.  I’ve been talking about them for about a year now…lol.  For reals though.  Super obsessed with Valley Eyewear since Lisa at Lunchpails + Lipstick started rocking them.  Then another fav blogger, Jenna’s Kitchen/Small Fry Blog also started raving about her DB’s. Uber unique + funky.  Not my normal sunny game.  I typically stick to Ray Bans.  I ordered the DB style in gloss black.  They are even more dope than I imagined.  Check out the whole collection here.  Diggin the Spleen in baby pink and the Marmont Ltd in matte black + gold are sooo fucking rad.

Yolo County Backpacks for Kids //  I absolutely LOVE this organization.  If you’re a homie, then you already received an email from me.  If you’re not familiar with BPFK, here’s a little more info:
The MISSION of Yolo County Backpacks for Kids is to provide new backpacks and school supplies to children and schools in need throughout Yolo County.
For the last nine years, through the generosity of Yolo County residents, businesses and leaders, over 9,000 children whose families had insufficient resources to buy school supplies have received the necessary materials to start the school year properly equipped and prepared to learn.
You can also check out their website here – Yolo County Backpacks for Kids
Can you believe that 9,000 children received backpacks through this organization, that otherwise would have gone to the first day of school with NOTHING!?!?  Last year, with the help of my family + friends, we donated 39 filled backpacks, TONS of extra supplies and cash donations.  Let’s do it again friends!!  Let’s do even more this year!!
This was from last year…….
A huge thank you to Stacy and Bailey Brown who along with friends and family donated 39 filled backpacks and provided funds to buy more! This is the second year that these wonderful people have donated to help our local kids start the school year right!
