{valentine’s day #ootd + bay’s cookie recipe}

Image-1 (3)

I had too!  Happy Valentine’s Day friends!  I hope you started your day off with some kind of sweet heart-shaped treat.  I had and egg and avocado..lol.  Totally didn’t plan a V-day breakfast for Bay.  To be honest it slipped my mind.  Who am I?  I stuck a couple Eggo waffles in the toaster.  Used a heart cookie cutter.  Whipped cream + sprinkles + a cherry on top (Bay doesn’t do cherries BTW).  She loved it anyway!  I did have a super cute lunch with heart pepperoni planned, but Lent screwed up that idea.  So we went with heart quesadillas instead.

Speaking of lent…..

What are you guys giving up?

Bay + I are still undecided.  Decisions, decisions!

Bay suggested coffee…LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!  She’s so funny!

But you know what I did plan, wayyy in advance for Valentine’s Day?  Our #ootd’s

You gotta have a cute outfit for the Holiday, right?

Bay couldn’t believe I was in pink and she was not.  First time for everything.

When I saw this cute Tee on Crewcuts, I knew it was happening.

My V-day #ootd //

Top // Denim // Slides // Bracelet

Ruffle-hem top // currently 20% off.  I fell in love with this top and went to the store to pick it up.  You guys, that’s pretty major.  Driving to Sac is like driving to LA for me.  Ha!  I don’t make a habit of it.  I steamed her up a couple of nights ago so she was all ready for Valentine’s day today:)

9″ High-Rise Skinny Jeans // These are an investment denim.  But, worth every penny.  I’m torn between these and the J.Crew toothpick mid-rise I shared last week.  I’ll have to roshambo.  Here’s the trick to save $20.  Take an old pair of jeans that you hate.  They can have holes, stains…doesn’t matter.  Hell, you could take a pair of your dad’s old jeans.  Anything goes.  Madewell does a denim recycling program.  Which is great!  You give them an old shitty pair of jeans, they give you a $20 off a pair of jeans.  The kicker…it’s in-store only and they must be full-price.  Check out the roadtripper.  You could grab a pair or $55!

Slip On Pointy Toe Mules // Think pink velvet….and $23!  Thank you Target for a great looking affordable slip on mule.  You probably wont believe me when I say this, I have put these mules on more in the last two weeks than my beloved Free People boots.  Swear!  Pink literally goes with everything.  Try it!  And let’s talk about Target for a minute…It’s been seriously on point lately.  The girls at the Davis customer service counter probably know me by name for all my online orders.  The new Universal Thread is so good.  I picked up this Button Down Shirt,  Striped Kimono and this Convertible Backpack/Shoulder Bag.

Glider Bangle Bracelet // Get one of these glider bangles.  You’ll thank me.  Get one for your girlfriend and your sister and your mom too.  It’s so simple and lightweight.  Not to mention pretty 🙂

Leather Moto Jacket //  Top // Denim // Sneakers // Earrings // Hair Tie

Girls’ Camo Heart T-Shirt // I love J.Crew T-shirts and this one is no exception.  Did you take a peek at the price tag?  Makes it even cuter.  Ha!

Superdenim Super Skinny Jeans with Fantastiflex // Bay is super picky when it comes to denim.  Not sure where she gets it from?  Bay’s favorite and the denim that fit her long skinny legs best, GAP.  Some Target jeans work and Levis too!  I stock up when I find them on sale.

Girls’ Adidas® Superstar™ sneakers // Pink Adidas.  No explanation needed!

Vermeil Heart Stud Earrings // Cutest heart studs I’ve ever seen.  They’re so cute, tiny and GOLD (my favorite).  Bay got these for a Christmas gift and decided to put them on last weekend.  I can’t stop staring at her pretty ears now 🙂

Leather Bow Hair Ties // Bay is currently searching her backpack looking for all the missing hair ties.  Drives me bananas that she looses them ALL.THE.TIME.  But, how cute are these hair ties?  I steal them (when I can find them) from time to time.

Faux leather moto jacket // The other day, while shopping for a birthday gift, Bay spotted this leather jacket.  Put it on and immediately fell head over heels IN LOVE.  We didn’t buy it.  The next morning Bay woke up and told me that she can’t stop thinking of the leather jacket.  You guys, she’s me!  I totally get it.  I do the exact same thing.  Naturally, I had to sneak back to GAP and grab the leather jacket.  The heart knows what it wants.  Did I mention that it was marked down to $28.  And the only one they had been in Bay’s size.  That kind of shit is straight up meant to be ♥  When she came downstairs this morning, I thought she was going to cry.  Happy tears obvi.  I think I’ve created a clothing monster.  Is it bad that I’m kinda loving it?!?!  Ha!  Not my checkbook, but I cant wait to see what kind of funky teenage style she has.  And hopefully she doesn’t kill me when I copy her.

What are your Valentine’s Day plans?  Traditions?  Fancy dinner out?  Cooking something special at home?  We celebrated last night at Louis Cairo’s.  I had my heart set on Moxie but they were completely booked.  On a Tuesday.  What the hell?  Tonight we are going to make a seafood pasta using heart-shaped noodles ♥  After church.  #nomeat

Bay wanted me to be sure to share her super easy Hand Pie Heart Cookie recipe, so here we go.  Longest post ever 🙂

Hand Pie Heart Cookies //

IMG_8912

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 box pre-made pie crust (comes with two)
  • Apricot jam
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 heart cookie cutters (different sizes)

Here’s what you do:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cut out hearts with larger cookie cutter.

Using the smaller cookie cutter, cut out a heart in the center of 1/2 of the larger hearts.

Lay large hearts (without a small heart cutout) on a prepared baking sheet.

Brush with egg wash.  1 egg beat with a splash of water. (this will help seal the cookie)

Add a dab of jam in the center.

Top with the heart cut out.  (does this even make sense?)

Using a fork, press around the edges of the cookies to help seal.  And it makes them pretty too!

Brush the tops with remaining egg wash.

Sprinkle with sugar.

Bake for 20-23 minutes until golden brown.

So simple + so cute.  Any little baker and whip up these festive cookies ♥
