{back to school}

Tee | Shorts | Vans (BOGO 1/2 off) | No-Show Socks | Backpack

I can hardly believe school starts in TWENTY TWO days! Where did summer go?

As much as I LOVE summer. I have to admit, I’m ready for our regular routine. You know – the one where nobody wants to get out of bed. Then we’re both up fighting over the bathroom. Bumping into each other to brush out teeth. And typically running late. Ha! Don’t you miss that too?

Bailey has opted out of taking zero period this year, so we’ve got some logistics to still work out. The 7:15 am out the door was actually kinda nice last year.

But, what we do have figured out is ALL THE THINGS back to school gear-wise. From backpacks to teen approved lunchboxes. Vans, ONLY vans. Cute tops + accessories that you “NEED”

With the help of my very own 12 year old, we’ve rounded up her top picks for back to school.

Bay’s Clothing Picks

I don’t buy a ton of back to school clothes. Couple pairs of jeans. A sweater. And a few cute tops. Done! The season changes shortly after school starts and they they need a whole new wardrobe. Bay’s wearing the Polaroid T-Shirt above. Once school starts, shorts are only for after school and weekends due to the dress code. So I found some cute jeans on the Nordstrom #nsale that Bay LOVED. These Treasure & Bond Step Hem Skinny Jeans and a pair of Joe’s Jeans High Waist Skinnies. A couple O’Neil graphic Tee’s. Two dressier (not tee shirts) Black Flutter Sleeve Top and this High-Neck Chambray, which Bay loved so much, she wore for her photos last week. A Sweatshirt and Cardigan and she’s good to go. Come October she’ll probably have outgrown her jeans and need all new long sleeve tops. FML!

Shoes

Are your kids Vans ONLY too? That’s all Bay wanted. A new checkered pair and I caved on an all white pair that will look nice for about 2 days. Famous Footwear is having a killer sale. BOGO (buy one get one) 50% off. Plus an additional 20% off if you sign up for their emails. I picked up two pairs for about $60! Then a pair of Nikes for PE and Volleyball. Kinda boring. But, I’ve learned to just buy what she actually wears and save my damn money.

Backpacks

All black Jansport. I have a feeling I’m not the ONLY mom that heard that. Bay: “Because EVERYONE has a black Jansport.” Me: “then why do you want one?” Hmmm. Doesn’t make any since at all to me. But, whatever. I found Jansport backpacks at JcPenny’s. Amazon and Nordstrom. They are all in stock and you can have them in time for the 1st day! I still LOVE the Herschel backpacks. Bay had the grey one that I’ve link below and I think it was the cutest backpack she’s ever had since her Pottery Barn Kids days.

Accessories

All the Pura Vida Bracelets , Scrunchies and Pony Phone Cords one can fit on their arm…lol. Lisa Allen posted these Seamless Ribbed Cami Bralette and they are bad ass! Great to wear over a bra or as a bra when you’ve got the low cut arm holes. Which I feel like so many cute tops come that way these days. I also picked up a couple of these $3 Cropped Cami’s – they are also great for under tops that are low cut. If you’re kiddo is also a Vans wearer, these are the perfect Socks (aka liners)

Water Bottles

Again, the Hydro Flask is a teen MUST-HAVE! Bay has one already. Unfortunately she covered it in hideous stickers and it now looks like shit. Which I warned her was 100% going to happen. We’ve come to an agreement. I will buy one more this year, but there are to be NO stickers….or it goes in the trash. I just can’t. They are too expensive to purposely ruin. #meanmom. I have my original OG Swell bottle that I still use to this day and works like a charm, so I linked a couple of them below too! The other water bottle request for sports: Gatorade Squeeze Bottle

Lunch Time

Bay chose the black Fulton Bag Co. Upright Lunch Bag. She had a similar lunch bag last year that lasted the entire school year. This one is great….the hard plastic inside shell is removable and comes in lots of color options. Oh and you can throw it in the washing machine too! I’m a big fan of the (re)zip bags. They are pricey, but work great and dishwasher safe. I stock up on a few new lunch containers too. I dig these and these bento boxes! Also picked up a 4-pack of these slim Lunch Chillers.

School Supplies

Another item I don’t buy a shit-ton of. I swear Bay wants to get every.single school supply on earth. Then doesn’t use hardly any of them. Or the list the teachers send home the first day have completely different list. So, I buy the a couple fun items, then wait till school starts to pick up whatever else is needed.
