Bailey is hooked on the Food Networks, Kids Baking Championship.   Kids Baking Championship is hosted + judged by Duff Goldman + Valerie Bertinelli.

Eight talented young bakers compete for the title of Kids Baking Champion, $10,000, a full ‘baker’s kitchen’, an article written about them, and their cake recreated in Charm City Cakes.

Bailey has watched the same episode over and over.  I’ve seen bits + pieces too, and the show is pretty cute.  I can see what she enjoys.  I still to this day record Giada’s cooking shows.

Sunday afternoon, Bailey came up with an idea.  A brilliant idea, that included me NOT cooking dinner.  Obviously I was all in!!  Bailey wanted to do her very own “kid cooking challenge.”  She would do the cooking and I would do the tasting/judging.  Sounded like a fabulous plan to me.  She asked me to take her to Raley’s to pick out the ingredients.  Without a clue as to what she was making us, we loaded up and headed to the grocery store.

Here’s what she picked out:

  • Portabello Sausage Links (she even spotted one with the GF + organic label) A+
  • Whole wheat rotini pasta
  • Alfredo Sauce
  • Rainbow carrots

I knew exactly what she was making 🙂

With very little help, my 9 year old whipped up a delicious dinner for the three of us.

She sliced + sauteed the sausage.

Boiled water and cooked the pasta (perfectly, I might add)  I hate under-cooked pasta.

Made a dressing for the carrots: Seka Hills Olive oil + Honey, salt, pepper. (Bailey LOVES honey)

Then roasted the carrots.

While everything was cooking, she even set the table.  I taught her a napkin fold.  Lemon ice water in wine glasses was my favorite touch 🙂

I helped her with timing so everything would be ready about the same time.

I had the best time watching and waiting for her to ask for “advice” not help.  She had the best time cooking.  I was super proud of her.  She was super proud of herself.  It was a win-win.  Except I offered to do the dishes.

She’s asked if she can cook Monday night dinners from now on.  I love it!!

Holy Kaia Hell Week.  Burpees every 5 minutes for an hour, between our regular workout.  It was intense.  I pushed myself and it was hard.  After 2 bathroom breaks I finally got to 100 jump ropes in a minute.  I finally met my goal!!!  Now I want to beat 125.
