Have you ever heard of the third piece rule? It’s totally new to me too. I’ve been reading more and more about it and decided I need to put this rule in effect! It’s basically a way to encourage more stylish outfits.
Your top + pants are your first + second pieces. Shoes not included. Your third piece must be an extra element. For example: blazer + belt + hat + scarf + statement jewelry.
Does that make sense?
Basically the third piece promotes a more stylish outfit. Making your run of the mill look more put together. Polished. Interesting. Like you put a little extra effort into your look!
I’m going to incorporate the third piece rule this summer working with pieces I already have. What do you think? Are you down for the challenge?
Tiered Tank Top – Love a crisp white tank top. I typically grab for the good ol black tanks, but this one is a keeper. It’s tiered in the right places to make it flattering. Bonus – strapless bras are not necessary. The straps are thick enough to hide regular bra straps! Can I get a Whoop Whoop! Today you can grab this tank for $19!! Use code: WHOA for 50% off!
8″ Toothpick Jean With Let-Down Hem – Still a BIG fan of the toothpick 8 inchers. For me, it’s the perfect rise. Not too low. Not too high. Just right. Comfy and perfectly stretch + softness to the fabric. Knee distressing is legit on my knee, which doesn’t always happen for my height. The let-down hem is fun with a roll or left down. I can go on and on…Ha! And the best part – they are marked down to $65! Wayyy cheaper than I grabbed them for. Use code: Tuesday for 40% off
STEVE MADDEN Irenee Ankle Strap Sandal – These 2 inch heels are getting a shit-ton of wear. I honestly didn’t think I’d be pulling them out and pairing them with denim as much as I have. There’s just something about a little heel action that instantly dresses up an outfit a bit.
Tortoiseshell Statement Earrings – And for my new third piece rule, I added these fancy new tortoiseshell earrings to finish off the look. I’ve has my eye on these beauties for a while, but didn’t want to pull the trigger at full-price. EVERYTHING goes on promo at J.Crew so sometimes you gotta wait it out and cross your fingers they don’t sell out.
