Hey friends! You know when you have that week (or in my case weeks) where nothing goes smoothly? You stay up late over thinking. Or watching + reading about the border separations. Which makes you wayyy too tried to hit the 5 am gym time? Then you eat like shit, drink wayy too much, start breaking out, act like a total bitch and feel bad for yourself? That’s basically been me for the last two weeks. Then you go to Target and buy a new dress to make yourself feel better? It works, don’t get me wrong. It really does the trick for me. Temporarily. This dress I’m wearing right here? I picked this up on one of my many shop your feelings away days. HA! I’m not looking for sympathy what so ever! It’s life! I’m totally fine!
So, on Friday, I chatted a for a sec about the book I’m currently hooked on, Girl, Go Wash Your Face! Thanks to this book, I feel SO MUCH BETTER!
I know your rolling your eyes right now. I did too! Every time I heard someone praise this book.
Then the library sent me an alert that the audio book I requested MONTHSSSSS ago, was available for pick up.
Popped it in the CD player while still parked in front of the Woodland Public Library. And the rest is history. Haven’t turned it off since.
I am almost done with the book and contemplating listening to it all over again. Just to make sure it sticks!
One of her opening statements was:
“Have you ever believed that you aren’t good enough? That you’re not thin enough? That you’re unlovable? That you’re a bad mom? Have you ever believed that you deserve to be treated badly? That you’ll never amount to anything?
And, she pees her pants! lol! Maybe that’s why I love her so much 🙂
Here’s a little summary that I found on her website. I printed it and keep it in my planner. Since I share ALL THE THINGS with you guys, and feel so inspired by this book. I wanted to share her 10 habits with you too!
10 habits that will change your life by Rachel Hollis.
1. WRITE DOWN YOUR GOAL
Whether you’re a stay at home mom or a CEO, having a goal gives us something to work toward. Whether its eating healthy, saving money, losing weight or landing you’re dream job you need to name your goal and then you need to WRITE IT DOWN. Write it on Post Its, pin it up everywhere as a reminder of your priorities.
2. DRINK YOUR WATER
Drink half of your body weight in ounces of water every day. As in, take the amount that you weigh, divide in half and whatever that number is in ounces is your new water goal. Carry a water bottle with you and refill it everywhere you go. Put in a lemon slice, cucumber, apples– whatever! Just get your water in.
3. STOP FOLLOWING FOOD (except for xoxostacyb lol)
It pains me to say it but I had to stop following my favorite food bloggers on my favorite social media channels AND stop scrolling Pinterest (basically all food) in the evening. I’d scroll through my feed and suddenly be starving for melted cheese and poutine. I’ve found I’m better able to stick to healthy eating and motivation when that’s what I’m consuming on social.
4. EDIT YOUR CLOSET
Close your eyes and imagine your future self, the one you dream of becoming. What does she look like, how does she dress, who is she friends with, where does she go? Get as detailed as you can I find that these sort of imaginations help set intention about our priorities. Do you have that woman in your mind? Now look at your closet through the vision of who you want to become…remove anything that isn’t the best version of you. Why do you own sweatpants that are two sizes too big or that sweater that looks hideous? If it’s not the BEST you, then don’t let it clutter your clarity.
5. WORKOUT, EVERY DAY
Workout for at least thirty minutes. I can hear you now, “Rach are you serious?! Every day??” YES! Every. Single. Day. Doesn’t matter what it is: walking, running, Zumba, jumping on the trampoline with your kids, dancing at a club (I assume some of you are young and cool enough to still do that!), flag football, yoga– whatever! Just do it, every day for thirty minutes. You won’t believe what this will do for your mood and your energy level. Most people don’t magically have a ton of energy but it is possible to CREATE energy by making it a priority.
6. PLAN YOUR WEEK
Every single Sunday I plan for the week ahead. Hubs and I sit together to map out who’s doing drop off of the kids, who’s working out when (yes we plan that together) and what to eat for dinner. The same planning goes into my work schedule to ensure I’m intentional about my time and my focus. If you feel overwhelmed by your week you need to take CONTROL of your calendar.
7. WAKE UP EARLIER
Get up an hour earlier than you normally do and use the time for YOURSELF. Workout, pray, meditate, read, work on your novel– whatever it is, just commit to something that makes you feel great! Everyone constantly says they don’t have enough time for self-care. I call bull-crap! You MAKE the time. You’ll be shocked at what you can accomplish.
8. GIVE IT UP FOR 30 DAYS
Give up one food category you know you shouldn’t be eating. Caffeine, white bread, refined sugar, Diet Coke, dairy, meat– whatever, just choose something you know it would benefit you to do without. I’m not asking you to give it up forever, just 30 days. When you kick the habit for 30 days I promise you you’ll never go back to eating that item or you’ll at least eat WAY less of it.
9. READ, WATCH, LISTEN
Every single thing I know about business, marriage, parenting, faith or personal growth are things I’ve learned over a lifetime. However, I am constantly reading, listening to podcasts, going to conferences or watching YouTube videos to learn as much as I can about the things I care about. I honestly learned how to make THIS presentation you’re reading by watching a YouTube video about 15 min ago! Honestly friends, the woman you want to become is on the other side of knowledge that’s just waiting for you to CLAIM it. Actively pursue your education and personal growth to become who you were meant to be.
10. FOCUS ON GRATITUDE
Last but not least– every single day I want you to write down ten things you’re grateful for. I started doing this last year and it has utterly changed my outlook on life. I feel so blessed all the time because I’m constantly on the lookout for my blessings. You can choose big things (your children, your partner, your job) but I’d actually encourage you to look for simple things: the sound of laughter, a pretty sunset, how comfy your pajamas are. True happiness is in the little details, not the big stuff.
I’m currently working on implementing all 10 components into my day. Some I already do, and some I’ve never done before. Once I get there, I’m sure I’ll tell you all about it…lol!!
Make sure to pick up Girl, Go Wash Your Face! Promise me, k!?!? Oh, and it’s 15% off with the Target cartwheel app. Making it under $14! And since your already there, grab yourself the tie dye maxi dress. It’s so cute 🙂
And if you too, have been feeling down in the dumps, I hope you find a little “happy” no matter where you are in your day.
