Casini Ranch 2018 camping trip was a blast!

You know it’s been a good weekend when your abs hurt from laughing so much.  Never a dull moment with the family ♥

I never got around to blogging about our 2017 Casini Trip.  It was equally as good!  That’s what brought us back.  The perfect campground for families.  Daily activities for the kids.  Ice cream social.  Bonfires.  Feeding the Casini horses.  Panning for rocks.  Bike rides.  And of course the river.  If you’re looking for a new place to camp, I suggest you try out Casini.

IMG_4240.JPG

Fri-Day!  Planning on taking full advantage of the weekend and get some relaxing in.  Next week is Spring Show….aka shit show.  Only kidding.  It’s just a very busy week.  And a good week.  Bay entered a baked good.  Table setting.  And has a pig.  If you’re looking for us, we’ll be at the fairgrounds.

Weekend plans?  We’re hitting the road.  Camping on the Russian River.  I love camping.  It’s a lot of work and all, but being outdoors, roughin it a little bit.  Drinking from sun up till sun down (the best part in my book)  S’mores.  Sitting around the campfire laughing till your belly hurts.  That’s what we’ll be up too.

Ok, let the weekend begin!

One – Fruit Bowl // Found it.  Actually my Mom found it, within minutes.  I legit scoured Target.com for this wooden pedestal bowl I used in {orange table setting} for about 30 minutes.  I search pedestal.  Wooden bowl.  You name it.  But, fruit bowl?  That’s just dumb Target.  It looks very Pottery Barn-ish with a Target price tag.  Anyway, I got lots of messages about it.  So here ya go….

IMG_4057

Turned Wood Fruit Bowl – Threshold

TWO – Polenta Croutons // Same idea as polenta fries.  These crispy little things are the perfect addition to any salad.  I still swear by Robin Nelson’s famous salad.  Mixed greens.  Brianna’s Creamy Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing.  Blue cheese crumbles.  Sliced cherry tomatoes.  Croutons.  The only thing I’ve changed: thinly sliced red onion.  And of course, polenta croutons.  Shake it up in a big trash bag and pour into a salad bowl.  It’s  a crowd pleaser.  When you make this salad, remember to give Robin a shout out!

Polenta Croutons:

  • 18oz tube pre-cooked polenta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons parmesan
  • Salt + pepper

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.  Line a baking sheet with foil or a silpat.

Chop polenta into cubes.  Don’t bother making them perfect….just try to keep them about the same size so the cook evenly.

Toss chopped polenta + the rest of the ingredients into a bowl.

Place polenta croutons on prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.

Flip and bake an additional 15 minutes.  Or until golden brown and crisp.

How many polenta croutons should one eat in a sitting?  Asking for a friend.

These little fuckers are dangerous…just FYI!

THREE – Mascara Primer // New Product alert.  I know I say this all the time, but you guys…I found an amazing product.  Mascara Primer.  I’d honestly never even heard of it till last week.  Used this product everyday this week and the only thing I can say: So pissed I didn’t know about this sooner.  It’s life changing!  I coat my eyelashes with primer.  The primer is white, just fyi.  Let it dry for a sec, then top with my STILL fave mascara (L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise)  You’ll never guess how much this primer costs?

Happy Thursday peeps.  I did another grocery store pick-up today.  Which allowed me to spend my lunch break doing more important things.  You know, like tan.  Go to the post office + bank.  And grab an iced coffee from Starbucks.  Try it out!  I’m telling you it’s so legit.  I was able to stock our house for next weeks meals + grab everything we need for our camping trip tomorrow.

I’ve been trying out Time Batching this week.  I can’t say too much, I really haven’t mastered this time-management hack just yet.  What I can say, is the time batching that I have done throughout the day has helped me focus and be productive AF.  Stay tuned though, I want to tell you all about it.  Once I’ve mastered the art of Time Batching.

But, what I’m really here to tell you all about today……

Current Closet Faves //  Denim that fits like a glove.  Colored top.  Sunnies, always sunnies.  Mustard Mules.  A neutral clutch to even out all that yellow.  And a cute little necklace on the side.

Too much?   Nahhh!

IMG_4210.JPG

You guys, I’m all about the burnt yellow.  Spicy Mustard.  Saffron.  Canary.  Like BIG TIME!  Yesterday was all the orangy hues, but what can I say…today is a new day!  I accidentally picked up two yellowy items this week, and I love them so much, that I’m gonna tell you all about them.

If wearing too much yellow is wrong, then I don’t wanna be right!

IMG_4057

Oranges + kumquat!  Nothing brightens up a room better than fresh fruits.  Totally stylish.  Super affordable.  And delicious too!  I envisioned using fresh produce of some sort in lieu of flowers for a change.  Honestly I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off.  I bought fresh stems at TJ’s as a backup plan…Ha!

IMG_4053

The oranges + kumquat both complement the spring + summer color palette perfectly.  Such an easy pop of color.  I’m typically not a HUGE color fan.  I like to keep it pretty neutral.  But, this is so pleasing to the eye, that I fell in love.

IMG_4051

The centerpiece consists of oranges + greenery (that I pulled from a bouquet my homegirl Nikki brought me) + Eucalyptus filler that I picked up from Target yesterday.  $7.99 for 3 bunches.  Originally I bought them for a different spot in the house and threw them in here last-minute.  Wouldn’t they look so cute in a bud vase?  They are super versatile and almost look real!

BIG shout out to Jamie Carroll + Allison Rose for the orange + kumquat delivery.  Thank you for making my table dreams come true ♥

IMG_4054

We have to take a moment to chat about these glasses.  I fell in love the moment I laid my eyes on these beauties.  They are vintage so I can’t link them or tell you where you can find some.  Sorry!  They look real pretty filled with rosé….I had to test it out the day I brought them home.  I’m thinking pretty desserts next.  But for now, they are showing off on my dinning room table and they make me uber happy!

IMG_4052

This $9 wine decanter was another Target find a few months back.  Filled with sliced oranges + water.  That’s what I’ll do.  I tried chardonnay and it looked kinda like urine…lol.  So, we’ll stick with water for now.

Keep scrolling for more images + details.

IMG_4060

Whenever I want to change-up the dinning room table, the first thing I do is linen napkins.  It’s impressive what a simple napkin can do for a table.  I picked up this white stripe 4-pack for $7 at Target yesterday.  They are a simple + classic, so they will be used over and over again.

IMG_4059

I think lemons + lavender would also be such a great combo.  Who knows, maybe I’ll try that next 🙂

IMG_4058

Tied a piece of greenery around the back of the white chairs.  It’s the little details that always get me.  Super simple and so pretty!

What happens when a taco meets a pizza?  Let’s taco-bout it……

That was so bad, sorry…HA!

Raise your hand if you love tacos?

Raise your hand if you love pizza?

It’s safe to say, I see all your hands in the air.

I think we all know by now, that pizza is my jam.  Tacos are a very close runner-up though.  So, why not combine the two for Taco Tuesday?

IMG_3807

Years and years ago, I made a taco pizza.  I totally forgot about it, till last week.  I decided to re-create it.  Give it a shot.  See what my peeps think.

Well, it was a hit!  I got thumbs up!

Kinda like a Mexican Pizza, but kinda not.  You know what I mean?

Let’s take a moment and marvel at that pizza.  That crust.  Those toppings.  Bubbly cheese.

Pacific Star Gardens is open 7 days a week from sun up till sundown.  $3.50/lb for organic strawberries.  It’s one of those seasonal things I love doing with Bay!

Yep, it’s finally Friday!  And this girl is ready to shake a tail feather.  How about you?  It was a damn good week.  I got shit accomplished.  This weather….straight up beer drinking weather.  What’s on the agenda for the weekend?  We’re hanging out Saturday and headed to the city on Sunday for a mother-daughter date ♥

Before I wrap up this day…..

Let’s chat about what I’ve got on my mind?  Just some things I’m currently diggin…..

ONE – Fanny Pack //  Ok friends.  I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on a fanny pack.  Crazy to think the 90’s fanny pack is making its way back.  Goes to show, everything comes full circle.  Ha!  There are so many cute options, but obvi I have my heart set on a not so budget friendly pack.  I think it would be so great for vacationing.  Weekends.  Shopping.  Anything really.  What do you think?

2018-TAN-LEATHER-PURSE-2_1024x1024

I found this on Urban Dictionary…lol:

A pouch or other device used to hold items usually worn around the waist. Most often used as an alternative to a man-purse.
Frank keeps his lube and lipstick in his fanny pack.

TWO – Songs // Do you ever listen to a song over and over till your almost sick of it? Me too!  Ha!  Midland has been on maj repeat.  This Old Heart + Burn Out have been my jam.  Having a little FOMO for Stagecoach.  Midland is on the lineup too!

Midland – Burn Out

Midland – This Old Heart

THREE – Snackin’ //  Hummus!  Like always, jazzed up!  Good ol’ Trader Joe’s hummus.  With a drizzle of olive oil.  And a couple sprinkles of TJ’s everything but the bagel seasoning.  Cut up veggies from the weekend meal prep.  TJ’s beet crackers, which I’m IN LOVE with.  I have to hide them or Bay + Cory will polish them off.

Jazz up your hummus this weekend and watch it disappear.

{double chocolate banana bread}

IMG_3476.JPG

Hey friends!  Nothing is a bigger buzz kill then going about your morning like it’s Friday.  Then realizing it’s only Thursday.  FML!  I never do that.  Switched my carpool day and I think it totally threw me off.  I even said Happy Friday to my co-workers when I walked in the office…Haha.

This morning I hit the pavement with my homegirl Sarah P.  It was so nice to be outdoors at the butt-crack of dawn, for a change.  I was thinking, damn, I’ve been in a really good mood all week.  Then it hit me.  It’s because I’ve worked out each morning.  I’m telling you, that shit is good for not only the body, but for the mind + the soul.  For every-damn-thing.  I REALLY need to stay on this workout everyday thing.

Anyway, since I had some extra time this morning, I whipped up something sweet for my girl.  She’s got the sweet tooth in the house.  We had nasty bananas.  And I hate throwing them out, knowing I could make something delicious.  Bay looovveeesss chocolate.  So, I googled it.  Found so many recipes.  Combined about 4 different recipes to use ingredients I had on hand.  And you guys…..

The Double Chocolate Banana Bread came out fucking magical!  (sorry Mom)

IMG_3475

Always thought this was a weird combo, but I promise you…it works!

So much better than I imagined.  I used only brown sugar, which keeps baked good super moist.  I mean, there were lots of other ingredients too, but typically when I use brown sugar, I also use regular sugar as well.  Not needed this time.

I reserved half of the chocolate chips to sprinkle over the top.  They didn’t fully melt, so when you take a bite…OMG, it’s like soft little clouds of rich chocolate.  I die!

Are you over listing to me go on and on?  Me too!

{statement tees}

IMG_0695

Let your T-shirt do the talking.

Ha, I just came up with that.

Just like the LBD + Vans sneakers, the Statement Tee is one of those trends that has never gone out of style.  Not going to lie, I was completely anti statement/graphic Tee’s till recently.

Then, one day, I laid eyes on this Budweiser sweatshirt.  SOLD!  Next was the Cali top.  Soon after the Chard shirt.   Then the Salut!   This Mamacita is on its way to the house as I type.  And I’ve clearly jumped on the graphic tee bandwagon.  I find them to be casual + playful.  Just plain ol fun!

And I’m not talking Disney + sporting teams + cartoon shit.  Just to clear the air.  More like the punchy one-liners.  Destinations.  Old rock bands.

Here’s some of my faves:

{avocado toast 4 ways}

IMG_3271.PNG

My love for avocado toast is deep.  Like soooo deep, I made 4 different types of avo toasts over the weekend.  We’re just gonna go ahead and call it avo toast, k?  It’s kinda my Saturday + Sunday jam!

But before we dive into avo toast, let’s get down to the basics……

How to pick a ripe avo.

There is nothing better than cutting into a perfect avo.  Am I right?  Especially when you just spent $3.99 for each of those little fuckers.

I even wrote a post about it!  {avocado love affair} Haha!  Which brought to my attention, that I’ve been making avo toast since 2015.  That’s before avo toast was even cool.

I buy about 4 avocados a week.  All different stages of ripeness.  That way they last me all week.  Cause I don’t want a hard ass avo.  And I also don’t want a brown-ish mushy one either.

Here’s what you do:

Remove the stem of the avocado to reveal the ripeness……

Green – under ripe

It may feel OK from the outside, but the inside will be hard as a rock…..no bueno.

Dark Brown – overripe

When you cut the avocado open it will be brownish, sometimes smelly and super squishy with the pit un-intact …gross!

Yellowish – just right

Avocado perfection.  The pit will be intact and it will have the perfect shade of green!!

I leave my avo’s in a bowl on the counter.  If you want an avo to ripen sooner, place it in a paper bag.  Always room temp!!!

IMG_3273

And don’t think this is just something I make for breakfast.  Avocado toast is completely acceptable any time of the day, in my book.

Wake up hangry or hungover?  Avo toast!

Looking for an easy snack?  Avo toast!

Dinner when you don’t feel like cooking?  You guessed it….Avo toast!

To begin, there is ONE GOLDEN RULE!
