Happy Holiday Weekend!!

This week has flown by and I’m perfectly okay with that!  I’ve got 4 consecutive days off….AGAIN.  How is the fuck did I manage to pull that off 2 weekends in a row?  I could cry.  It’s so GREAT!  Have I ever told you that 4th of July is like my favorite Holiday?  I mean, I love them all, but the 4th is just extra special.  We spend the Holiday at our family cabin in Lake Tahoe.  We go to the beach + sit/eat on the deck + play 31 over and over + go for walks + BBQ + sleep in + just chill with the family.  And pray that the bears don’t break in and eat us for a snack…HA!  It almost happened to my parents and the kids last night!!!  Swear!

Before I check out for the weekend, let’s talk about what I’ve got on my mind this beautifully fucking perfect Friday……

ONESeka Hills // Family Fun.  Food.  Fireworks.  And that’s exactly what they delivered.  What a fun night.  This is the second year in a row that I’ve attended this event.  The firework show is pretty damn impressive.  The Live music.  And the kid zone.  Although I was kidless, I did notice how cute the kid zone was.  Crafts galore and a photo booth too!  I was busy double fisting tuluk’a + rose and scarfing down Chandos Tacos Mulitas.  OMG…amazing by the way!

Until last night, I had never heard of Mulitas…..

Expertly made by layering jack cheese and your choice of meat between two corn tortillas. Top it off with Chandos’s signature fresh cilantro, delicious diced onions, creamy guacamole and tangy salsa for an instant flavor explosion.

Special thanks to Alex my wrap/knot shirt expert.  She fixed me up after every bathroom trip:)  I love the top, but it’s a lot of fucking work…HA!

TWO – Hershey Kisses // Red + white + blue wrapped treats just taste better.  I’m not going to admit how many of these Kisses I’ve devoured in the last week…FML!  I bought them for the Bike Parade and completely forgot to set them out on the treat table.  Darn it!  9 kisses for 200 calories, not bad!  These festive foils wrapped kisses are sold exclusively at Target, so don’t waste your time (like I did) look for them anywhere else.  I promise, you need these in your life!

THREE – Strait to Vegas //  We purchased our airline tickets!!  Shit is getting real!!  REAL exciting!!  Even my knocked up sister is pumped to tear up Vegas again.  I’m already mapping our the restaurants we’ll dine at.  Even though I heard it’s a disappointment….I have to check out the fancy Taco Bell.  Remember, I’m a TB junkie 🙂

29 days till I’m reunited with my main man, George!!

IMG_9996.JPG

Mini bacon burgers layered on a bamboo skewer, with lettuce + tomatoes + pickles.  Who can resist that combo on a stick?  Not me!!  OR Bay!

These make the perfect low-carb dinner or appetizer.

I recently grabbed a copy of Danielle Walker’s Against all Grain Celebrations cookbook.  So many beautiful + healthy recipes.  I want to make everything.  This one caught Bay’s eye.  She’s not a bun girl.  And anything on a toothpick is so cool to a 10-year-old.

To my fellow Unicorn Moms + Unicorn friends…CHEERS!!!

Today lets just chat about a little of this + a little of that……

Soooo how many times is it appropriate to eat ice cream in one week?  Asking for a friend!

Nordstrom Early Access Anniversary Sale begins 7/13.  Get your credit cards ready bitches!

This article.  Ha!  Stop whatever you’re doing (because you’re clearly not working anyway) and read it!  Before the Internet – The New Yorker

Currently debating on not going pee today, due to my legs feeling like they may fall off my body after Sarah P’s workout this morning.

Speaking of Sarah P…did you know that the two of us had a little business together…. Coaster Queens?  We made coasters 🙂  We still have a FB page for it and I just got a notification and it made me laugh.

A Pizza Hut recently opened in town.  Like walking distance from my house.  That’s it!

I legit ordered a visor.  I’m channeling my inner Aunt Penny!

{weekend notes}

IMG_9851

Happy Monday!  Is anyone else’s head spinning from such a fast weekend?  It was here and gone before I knew it.  From the coast to our Annual 4th of July Bike Parade, it was a good one.

Here are the highlights….

Hooky //

Bay + I played hooky Thursday.  I took a couple of days off work and Bay ditched summer camp.

Starbucks cheers to that!!!

She somehow convinced me she needed a gallon of glue.  Which means SLIME for days.  Which calls for the Slime Dance!!

Lunch date with a bacon sandwich please 🙂

Loved our morning together.  We kept saying we felt like rebels for not being at school/work!!

The Coast //

I spent Thursday – Saturday along the coast.  The weather was out of this world.  You guys, I wore a jacket.  It was sunny and 70’s during the day.  Absolute perfection.

Dinner at The Broiler Steak House.  Look at that wine pour!  As soon as the server walked up with that glass of chard, I knew it was going to be a fine dinning experience.  And it was!!!

IMG_9835

Little River Inn has the cutest golf course.  Between the random deer crossing and the stunning ocean views, this is a fun 9-hole course.  With a beer in hand, of course.  It was Friday!!

IMG_9840

The second best part of being on the coast, (the beaches obvi being first) the seafood.  Abalone.  Halibut.  Salmon.  Oh and the clam chowder.

Glass Beach //

I finally got to cross this off my to-do list.  It was worth the wait.  Did you know there are actually 3 glass beaches?  Me either…lol!

I also had to google glass beach.  Why in the hell is there glass all over the beach?  It’s broken down glass from a dump site.  Isn’t that crazy?  One of the most beautiful beaches due to garbage.  Either way it’s worth the stop!

In 1906, Fort Bragg residents established an official water dump site behind the Union Lumber Company onto what is now known as “Site 1”. Most water fronted communities had water dump sites discarding glass, appliances, and even vehicles.  Locals referred to it as “The Dumps.” Fires were often lit to reduce the size of the trash pile.

Various cleanup programs were undertaken through the years to correct the damage. Over the next several decades, what was biodegradable in the dump sites simply degraded and all the metal and other items were eventually removed and sold as scrap or used in art.

The pounding waves broke down the glass and pottery and tumbled those pieces into the small, smooth, colored pieces that often become jewelry quality and that cover Glass Beach and the other two glass beaches (former dump sites) in Fort Bragg

I broke the law, I think?  I couldn’t help but take a couple pretty souvenirs.

{friday 5}

Happy FRIDAY!!  I’m currently away crossing some items off my summer to-do’s and chasing lower temps along the coast.  But, I didn’t want to leave you hanging on a Friday.  I know you are all dying to hear what’s on my mind today, right?  Haha.  Well just incase you are, here’s what I’ve got…..

ONE – Red + White + Blue // Our Bike Parade outfits have arrived.  Is it possible that we are even more excited now:)  Yes, it is!  The bike decorations are purchased.  The bud light is in abundance.  Donut tower is set and ready to be loaded up with sugary snacks.  We’ve got fishie crackers by the gallon.   And balloons by the dozen.  The only thing left was our outfits.  And I almost dropped the ball.

Low and behold, they arrived!!!  Just in the nick of time….and we are good to go!!

I’m sure you’ve all seen the adorable Ily Couture graphic tee’s all over instagram.  I just had to get one.

Bay’s Dress //

I almost purchased this online for the original price.  Which I NEVER do.  When you’re on a red + white + blue mission, sometimes you do out of character shit.  Luckily I had a couple of extra minutes to run into the Davis GAP and there it was.  Guess how much?  $12!  40% off + 10% cardholder discount.  I would have kicked myself for paying full price.  Moral of the story, NEVER pay full price at GAP!  Ever!

TWO – Breakfast Popsicles // Popsicles for breakfast, you heard me right.  Come on Mom, it’s summer!!  Especially with these hot temps…why not?  It’s basically a yogurt fruit bowl, but in the form of a fun popsicle.  You can make a batch for the week and keep them in the freezer.  You know what that means?  Breakfast is served and you don’t have to do shit!  Grab and go..Bam!  A healthy breakfast is served 🙂

Happy solstice my friends.  Today is the beginning of SUMMER!!! (the longest/hottest day of the year too..Ha)  Celebrate it!  We’ve been patiently waiting for this day all year.

Bailey and I stayed up last night discussing what we want to-do and see over the summery months.  We’ve made our list and can’t wait to begin checking things off as we go!!

We tend to make these fun lists every season.  Back in March I posted our Spring list…and September our Fall list.  You can read them below 🙂

{honey lime chicken + veggie bundles}

I don’t know about you, but I’m seriously all about the quick + easy BBQ dishes lately.  Might have something to do with this crazy California heat?

I’ve got a keeper for you today!  Honey lime chicken.

I always call it a success when dinner is devoured by all and the clean up is a breeze!  Can I get an Amen?!?!  It’s easy on the eyes too!!

Honey Lime Grilled Chicken Thighs //

The marinade consists of some of my fave ingredients…..honey + lime + cilantro.  It comes together so easily.  I make it the night before and pop it in the fridge.

I’ve been on a thigh kick lately.  Maybe it’s that dark meat?  Maybe there is so much flavor packed into these thighs and they stay moist?  Even Bobby Flay says that thighs are the most flavorful part of a chicken and if given the option, he’d pick thighs…every time.

Either way, we’re diggin them at our house.

Bon appetite friends + Happy Grilling!
